Low mileage, long-term ownership, paperwork, high originality, and the last of a long and proud line of big-block V-8 engines recommend this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette convertible as an excellent collectible. It has been driven a mere 52,000 miles by three owners since it was sold new. Chromed rear bumpers were officially excised for the 1974 Corvette, replaced by a two-piece molded urethane end cap that cleverly covered the new mandated high-impact bumper within. The Corvette’s new silhouette would remain basically unchanged for the next decade, but the big-block would be gone after 1974, the victim of rising gas and insurance rates. Even so, 3,494 customers purchased big-block Corvettes in 1974, showing they were still popular with enthusiasts. Mostly unrestored with one repaint in the original Corvette Medium Blue, this 1974 Corvette convertible is a very clean example that retains its original Numbers matchingLS4 454/270 HP V-8—complete with Rochester 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust—backed by the original Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The entire undercarriage, exhaust system, water pump, and smog equipment are original to the car, as is the blue interior complete with the optional Custom Interior Trim package special cut-pile carpeting on the floor and lower door panels. Soft Ray-tinted glass, power steering and disc brakes, push button AM/FM radio and BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires on Rally wheels. As befits such a wonderful find, it is well documented.
Recently the Stingray has undergone brake, suspension, rear spring, rear axle and starter upgrades which makes it dependable and fun to drive – with no known drivability issues. The top is clean an untorn but has a cloudy rear window. With the purchase is a new top which I have not installed to keep the car as original as possible, leaving the choice to the new owner. There are a couple of small cracks in the rear plastic bumper along with a spot the size of a hand that has bubbled in the paint from the heat.
