1963 SPLIT WINDOW CORVETTE COUPE VALUATION
July, 2015
Statement of certification of the car's condition and restoration in 2015 and current valuation.
I testify that the following is an accurate and a full representation of the 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupe that has been in the current owner's possession for 34 years.
Historically, the car has been maintained by sports car professionals.
This 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupe originally had been restored in 1982 in a frame off restoration before it was purchased by the current owner. The most recent restoration was planned to return the car to showroom condition. The fiberglass body needed to be repainted, and a number of parts of the car needed to be re-conditioned, refinished, polished, or restored. A frame off restoration was not considered necessary.
The restoration has been handled in 2 segments. First, the re-conditioning, refinishing, polishing, and restoring of the parts that needed attention.
Second, a highly-reputable antique car and sports car painter in California repainted the fiberglass body of the car, including the refinishing, re-chroming, polishing, and repair of a number of parts that needed to be removed from the car during the repainting process. The car painter is considered to be among the premier painters of antique cars, Corvettes, and sports cars in California.
The 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupe's current condition: Showroom condition with original codes and original numbers. Original engine, transmission, driveline, fiberglass body, and all metal and chrome parts. Plus, from carefully inspecting the fiberglass body, we can attest that the car has never been in an accident.
Certain parts that have worn over the years, such as the door jam rubber stripping, light bulbs, and headlight bulbs, have been replaced. But, this doesn't affect the value of the car.
The car looks and drives as well as it did if not better than when it was sold in 1963. The reason for that is General Motors' Corvette production lines generally were a bit sloppy with how the cars were painted, including some of the exterior, the chassis, the tire wells, and the interior that aren't easily seen by the casual eye.
Thus, the car is in better than showroom condition. It is in mint condition.
If the car were being judged at a Corvette car show, it would be judged a "#1." This means that the car represents exceptional quality and condition true to the day final assembly was completed.
NADA, a most respected valuation service for Corvettes that scours the world to find the sales of Corvettes in public sales, public auctions, and in private sales to have the most accurate, current, up-to-date information on the market value of such cars, has a checklist for this 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupe. Based upon that checklist, it determined in 2015 that this car was worth $158,300 before sales tax. This information was available at the NADA website.
Thus, the buyer of this car in California if paying a 9.5% sales tax on the $158,300 valuation, or $15,038, would be paying $173,338.50 for this car.
From historical experience and knowledge of the value of similar, rare 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupes in the condition this car is in, this figure, with tax, represents an accurate, current value of this car.
