Description
This listing is for a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Tribute, Recreation car. Originally a 6 cylinder car, I think. I do not have build sheet.
This car was purchased by the previous owner in 1992. Upon inspection, to paint the car, he noticed that the quarter panels were filled with mud (Bondo). At that time he decided to strip the car down and put new quarter panels, fenders, 12 bolt rear with Eaton Posi and 4:11 gears, Th400 Transmission with a TransGo shift kit 3800-4200 stall converter, B+M Pro stick shifter, South Side Lift bars, Rear sway bar, doors, Bucket seats from Late 90's Chevy Cavalier, headliner, 396cid motor, floors (floors from a donor car), Half trunk (from Donor car) Disc brakes (from factory donor car) and turn the car into what he wante, which was a SS 396 car. The floors and truck are clean with no rust!
He also made it a track only car for himself and he installed a 8-point rollbar. But he retained the lights, turn signals, brake lights, dash (dash from ss396 car). Once he had the car completed, around 2005 or so he went to the track around 7 times (11:00's was the best he managed with a 125 shot of Nitrous.) with it before parking it for the next 8 years. (you can see in the picture of the rear the spider webs from sitting) Like most of us going to the track it was an expense that he couldn't afford at the time of completion and that's where I come in.
He decided to sell the car which I purchased. The car was missing the rear interior panels, door panels (roll bar in the way), visors, dome light, arm rest, Factory style bucket seats, window cranks and wiper motor. I wanted to make the car more of a nice street driver. I cut the rollbar out and added the items that I just mentioned and a new carpet and removed the nitrous system. I just had the car inspected (PA) this past month. It runs good with plenty of power. Cruising around the temperature stays around 170-180 in 85 degree weather.
As with most people selling there car, I am looking to purchase a house and when I purchased this car I couldn't for see that 2 weeks later a house would come to market that my family and I like.
It is by no means a restoration quality but it shows extremely well. As mentioned before there are some imperfections in the paint and so on. The guy I purchased from is a mechanic and not a body guy. He did an excellent job fitting the panels and painting the car for not being a body guy. Every where you drive this car, people notice and give there nod of approval.
The motor is a 396cid with Edelbrock Aluminum Heads made for TBI Motor which raised the compression to around 10.5:1. I have been using 92-93 octane fuel with no signs of detonation. The cam is a solid lifter .580 lift or so ( he told me from memory) He cant find the cam specs. Team-G intake with a 750 Holley Double pumper with front and rear 50cc squirters. He installed a sump on the original gas tank with a drain. He would start the car every once and awhile. When he planed on selling it he drained and put in new fuel and a battery. the car fired right up. I haven't had to touch it other than timing increased (no Nitrous) and I installed an alternator as the one he had on it was putting out 17 volts ( was not a 16 volt set up). Currently has 28x13.50x15 Mickey Thompson ET Street tires on it. I am working on some 28x12.50x15 S/R radials. If I get them they will be on the car but you can have both tires. I am currently driving the car. Speedo is off by 15mph at 55 it reads 70mph. Speedometer works just not accurate for the gears installed, all dash lights work. Missing cigarette lighter and has couple holes were nitrous switch and revese light switch were installed. I put reverse light back down in shifter, where it belongs. Missing dash bezels for the Astro-Ventilation. I plan on still adding to this car as I drive it but once sale is over I will park and wait for pick up.
You will see in the pictures that the battery is in the truck. I have ordered a new battery tray and plan on putting the battery back under the hood. Also, comes with painted hood seen in picture. I do not think It will clear with the current intake and carb combination. The header panel in front of the hood he painted black to match the cowl hood on the car now. He does not have the paint code or what the paint was from. you will need a good painter to try and blend this paint if you want painted body color.
I can take any picture of the car or video that you would like just to see just email using Ebay and I will get to you ASAP. Ask as many questions and I will try to get them in a timely manner to you.
There is no warranty with the car. I suggest viewing before you make the decision to purchase. There will be a $500 non refundable PayPal deposit due at auction close. Full payment due within 7 days of auction end. I currently have a clear title in hand. I will assist with your shipping selection but it is the buyers responsibility to arrange pick up and at buyer cost. Car can not be picked up until the form of payment has cleared. You are purchasing the car in "as is" condition. True mileage of car is unknown. Current speedometer reads around 70,000 but not original to car. Title shows "Mileage exempt"
Thanks for looking and good luck!!!
