Description

I am offering for sale a very unique and rare 1957 Corvette. This car was built September 26, 1956 and was the 17th car off the 1957 production line sporting VIN no. E57S100017. The first 24 cars were considered Pilot Cars, were painted Cascade Green, and were fitted with a range of features and options that were being considered for that production year. This retired Vette has been modified for the SCCA racing circuit; I.e., 427-390 hp vintage '60's Vette engine, Muncie M21 close ratio tranny and posi rear end. The history continues with a full set of vintage Stewart Warner gauges, Chevelle front disc brakes, elec. fuel pump, two-stage power assisted master cylinder and a vintage distributor tach drive system. With flared fenders, front and rear, this vintage racer closely resembles an old school Cobra which was its major competitor of the day. Looking like she stepped right off the race track, imperfections included, she looks like she could repeat the back-to-back SCCA points championships she's said to have won in the early '70s. This car was featured in Vette Magazine and the article can be found by Googling "Super Chevy 1957 Corvette Pilot Car".

I have owned her for 8 years and enjoyed the notoriety that comes with owning this vintage race car. Keep in mind, she still runs great, the acceleration is instant and awesome, and still turns heads wherever she goes. This is your chance to own an important piece of automotive racing history.

This is a very unique, one of a kind car. It’s a vintage race car so the paint, body, etc is showing patina. There is still evidence of the original Cascade Green paint on the floor, in the trunk, and on the under carriage (see pics). The car runs excellent and has enormous amounts of power. Please ask any and all questions before bidding.Thanks.

I've received several inquiries about the VIN. The VIN tag, as mentioned, is not present on the car. I would assume that it was removed/lost decades ago as the car was modified. The VIN was located on the frame and verified by a trained law enforcement officer. The VIN #17 on the frame and on the title are an exact match. The VIN on the frame, if necessary, could be accessed and verified by the winning bidder. Due to the location, however, photographs of the VIN on the frame are impossible.

The engine is a 1966 427/390hp. The heads are 702 casting number, which is the 98cc high compression heads. There is no suffix code on the front pad, but an expletive (no kidding) was stamped into the block years ago. Past stories report that this was done to due a disagreement between the engine builder and the owner. Due to Ebay policies, I am unable to print what is stamped on the pad. All I can say is it's a expletive :-) The heads and intake (cast iron Holley)are date coded 1966.

The rearend is posi, but the gear ratio is unknown.

The racing numbers "7" on the car are vinyl and removable.
