Description
You are bidding on a 1992 Camaro Z28 1LE. There were only 705 1LEs produced in 1992 and over 570 of those were the B4C package. Less than 130 were true 1LEs. From here the numbers get a bit more murky but we know that around 12% of camaros were in Hawaiian Orchid (aka Purple Haze Metallic). Even less than that were ordered with leather interior. Additionally, 1LEs were built for use in the SCCA Trans Am Circuit and not many survive today. In my 14+ years owning this car, I have never seen one like this in person or online. This is potentially a one-of-a-kind Camaro and it's your chance to own this rare piece of factory racing Americana!
The 1LE package was difficult to order, making them reminiscent of the legendary COPO Camaros of the first muscle car era. Ordering required a cooperative dealer and one that knew which options triggered this package. They were built with an aluminum drive shaft, 4 wheel disk brakes with heavy-duty calipers, a baffled fuel tank to prevent stalls on hard braking, 3:42 performance axel, high-flow exhaust, performance PROM chip, engine oil cooler, specially calibrated shock absorbers, fog light deletes, A/C delete, and other performance and weight saving options.
Despite what the attached Carfax indicates, I am the third owner of this car. I believe the original owners sold the car in 1995 and the second owner kept it until I purchased it in 2004. The car was purchased in my dad's name. At that time, it had around 65,000 miles. In 2008, the title transferred to me. This 1LE was my daily driver for 2 years before being covered in a garage for the last 12 years. In those 12 years, there have been less than 1,000 miles driven. This car is an absolute blast to drive and stands out in any crowd.
The car is fully original other than a performance JET chip, Flowmaster exhaust, light window tint, black tail light covers, mud flaps to prevent additional rock spray, and an aftermarket stereo head unit, although the original stereo is included with the car. The front bumper cover and front passenger fender have also been replaced. See the disclosure section for more information.
This 1LE comes with a large binder full of original invoices, order sheets, manuals, etc and also contains pictures of the car being delivered. The owner of this new car kept extensive documentation and it has been retained today.
In September of this year, this car had a tune up service in order to be ready for this sale. The spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor were replaced by a master mechanic. The rear axel bump stops and rear torsion bar pin links were also replaced.

There are also two videos of the car on YouTube. The most recent is a quick drive thru the first 4 gears.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l9NeousMPA
The second video is from 3 years ago but the car has not changed since then.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypB3Xzwuvco&t=1s
Disclosures:To the best of my knowledge, here is a list of everything you should know about before bidding:
- Cosmetic:
- As the pictures indicate, there is some wear on the driver's seat on the bolster.
- The dashboard has a dime sized chip on the driver's side as one picture indicates.
- In 2005, the car was involved in a low speed (<10mph) wreck into a shallow ditch. The front bumper cover and front passenger fender were replaced. There was no damage or bending to the frame. It was so minor that the car was driven away after the accident.
- Drive-ability
- When shifting into 2nd gear, it takes a firm shift or else there is a grind. We believe the fork is slightly bent but have not had this professionally checked. It has been this way since before I purchased the car in 2005.
