1976 GMC JIMMY (HIGH SIERRA)
Description
My wife and I purchased this rig in 1993 (25 years ago) from the original owners family. I picked this one out because it was solid, clean, low miles, always lived it's life in the Portland area, and I loved it's original Sky Blue and White color combo. I fell in love with it at first site and have DRIVEN IT DAILY and maintained and enjoyed it since. I think the next owner will feel the same way all these years later.
Vehicle Info:
Original 350/ 4 barrel.
Original drive train other than the transmission. (replaced trans with duplicate in 2006 ).
High Sierra package: A/C, cruise control, tilt wheel, deluxe trim, etc.).
I personally repainted it in 2013. The vehicle was very straight and clean prior to painting. The original paint was getting faded. The PPG paint job has held up very well. the only issues I see are the front of the hood and a small spot of rust on driver side quarter panel. I replaced both front fenders with new ones due to rust on the bottoms(very common). Replacement hoods are cheap and there are some nice cowl hood options available for these rigs. It is the original color combo it came with from the factory. Sky Blue and White.I replaced all door and tailgate rubber seals and window seals at time of paint job-still good.
Tires are and have 75% to 80% tread left and look real nice.
I purchased the wheels the first month I owned it, so they are old but they clean up nicely. Includes wheel locks.
Added Headers and the grill 15 years ago.
The nerf bars were added when I did the paint job. You may notice that you don't see these style bars too often because no one makes a kit to fit. I personally installed these and think they look fantastic.
It still has the same AM/FM cassette player that came in it . Works fine.
I have always taken good care of my rig. 15 years ago the motor got a miss. I diagnosed it and decided to rebuild the upper end . Included RV cam w lifters etc., timing chain and gears, heads taken to shop and valve job and servicing heads, Gaskets etc. Has ran great ever since!!!
I recently replaced the original factory front and rear seat covers with quality replacement upholstery as well as the complete front to rear carpet. Nice original interior!!!
Over the years I have replaced whatever wore out. Ujoints, bearings, seals, belts, hoses, etc. This fall we took it on trip to the Oregon coast. In preparation for a trouble free trip I replaced the distributor and did a thorough tune up and oil change. I replaced the front wheel axle end ujoints as well as bearings(upper and lower ball joints replace last summer). New brakes in front. We had a trouble free trip!
It still runs on it's original 4 brrl Rochester carb. It's had a couple rebuilds.
I will include receipts I have kept over the years. I will also add info I may have forgotten about.
Why am I selling now?
It is a 42 year old vehicle that's not getting any younger(neither am I- LOL). It will always need something. It has a couple drips, no seals just old gaskets. The power steering has developed a drip from one of the hoses. Nothing major, but if you don't want a few drips on the driveway put card board down. On cold start up( starts instantly always after a few pumps on the pedal) it puffs a little smoke cloud out. Normal for the mileage. Clears up instantly and doesn't smoke while running. Runs strong and just passed our DEQ tests with flying colors! I personally don't care about them . pretty normal for the miles. A person that owns one of these knows this. I am ready to get a newer vehicle that is more economical and will fit my budget (not looking to trade-sorry)
Here are some fun facts and guarantees:
I guarantee you will be told what a nice rig you have from everyone who see's it (get used to it!).I guarantee I have used the 4X4 drive once a year or less (perfect working order with light use-BONUS).I guarantee you will have a blast and be proud to own this Jimmy.I guarantee the mileage is 219,379 and I personally put the last 100,000 on it. Never abused!
The only thing I can't guarantee is that the new owner will be YOU!
The A/C compressor was removed long ago but I have and will include it and any other A/C pieces.Cruise control doesn't function, but everything is intact so it should be an easy repair.
Everything else works as it should. Lights, heat, controls, windows, doors, tailgate, etc...
When I bought it the original owner told me that one summer they removed the top( said it's heavy). When they reinstalled it they put in a new seal. This is a good thing. I have never removed the top, so it should be well sealed.
