Description

Up for auction AT NO RESERVE is my 2 owner 1979 Chevrolet K10 stepside 4x4.This 77,000 original mile K10 was purchased new in Santa Maria, CA.and remained on the central coast until I purchased it from the original owner’s daughter. This blue plate California truck is in very nice shape and ready for cruise night, Saturday coffee or weekend chores. On June 4, 1979 Mr. Roland Newlander took delivery of this Chevrolet K10 stepside from Home Motors in Santa Maria, California.A UPS driver by trade, one thing was certain for his K10, it had to be brown! And brown it was.Modestly optioned, the truck came equipped with a tilt wheel, tachometer, AM/FM radio, PS/PB and hubs. For the next 39 years the K10 tirelessly served Roland and his family on the central coast earning the family nickname “Brownie”! In the early 2000s Roland turned the keys to “Brownie” over to his daughter and son in law. After a few years of use the two decided it was time to restore “Brownie”.They kept everything as original (right down to the clutch pedal squeak) except the paint. The brown had to go and the color was changed to what you see today (if it were a Ford the color would be called Ginger). For the next 18 years the truck lived the life of leisure and was relegated to weekend duty.Fast forward to 2018 when I purchased the truck from Roland’s daughter.A quick trip home to Bakersfield, a light tune-up and once over and the truck was ready for service!California emissions and all this rig is ready to go!Unfortunately, I am relocating to Colorado and having to scale down my collection. The K10 is one of 10 vehicles that I will be selling. The interior on this rig is clean and well sorted.I replaced the original rubber floormat with carpet and had the seat recovered (factory material). Both are brand new and look excellent. The door panels are in great shape but do have some areas where the color has been scratched off.A quick repaint would do wonders. The headliner and dash pad are perfect. The visors are good but the passenger’s visor does have one split in it.I am including two new visors with the truckAs for the body, paint and trim, all are driver quality. The truck looks great from 20’ but up close you can definitely see the imperfections. It is fine for Saturday coffee and the trips to Lowes but it is not ready for the car show circuit!Doors close nicely, the body lines are straight, and there are no major dings, bumps or bruises. The hood does have the typical 73-80 GM bow in it but is not kinked. The previous owner reinforced the underside of the hood so it would not kink.As far as rust, I can only find one sign of what I believe to be rust repair and that is a small area on the cowl, passenger’s side, just below the windshield.Rockers, floorboards, inner fenders and battery tray and core support all look clean.Electrical, instrumentation and accessories are all good and in working order. The speedometer does act a little erratic (bounces) at low speeds but calms down at about 35 MPH.The 8000# Warn winch works great and gives the truck that rugged finishing touch it needs.Warn winch cover is off my Jeep and does not go with the truck (I installed it to protect the winch when I transported it from California to Colorado). Mechanically, the truck is solid. No drips slobbers or awful noises. The transmission and clutch feel nice (a little stiff to downshift initially on those cold days), transfer case engages and disengages smoothly and hubs are easy to operate. The 350 runs great but does have a slight lifter noise.I am not sure if regular use will remedy that or if it is something that will remain. It does not seem to impact the performance and the oil pressure is good so I have not worried about it.Truck drives and stops straight. Recent work includes a new radiator, speedo cable, heater core and carb rebuild.Tires are good with plenty of tread but they are weather cracked and old.Being they are old school bias ply I would make replacing them with a nice radial job no. 1!Included with the truck is the original owner’s manual and the pre-delivery inspection form.If you are in search of a square body for those winter adventures to Stowe, Mammoth, Vail or Jackson Hole or just want the perfect cruising rig for the ranch or sunny weekends this Chevrolet K10 may be just the rig for you. Please contact Dean at 661-703-8402 with any questions and HAPPY BIDDING!
