I purchased this 66 Chevelle SS from a Estate Auction some time ago. It was one of those cars that I bought to do some "here and there" and drive...well...I did some...but you can drive and enjoy it while doing what you want to it.
Here is the background on the car. The original purchased the car new in San Antonio...(per POP) and talk with the family. He was in the Service and deployed overseas until 1971...and passed away in 1980 due to some complications due to Agent Orange exposure. The car had 20,000 miles on it at the time. The car sat under a car port with his wife on and off until 1990 when it was put into storage.
In about 1999 his son decidedto get the car going again. The paint was sun baked and cracked from heat exposure in Texas....that is the caveat...DRY COUNTRY...but Texas bakes the paint! The son had a el cheapo paint job put on the car and drove it for a few summers. The car was parked in 2001until I bought it from HIS Estate years later.
I got the original 396 running again...put a Edelbrock carb on it because the original Holley wasgunked up. I spent $2,000 on going through the brakes.
I changed all the fluids and I had some issues with the original shifter adjustment...so I swapped it out...I have the original shifter as well.
The paint, like I said...looks great from 10 feet, but up close you can see that...it's going to need to be painted at some point in the future.
The interior is all original, including carpet, and is in GREAT shape. The original top isserviceable....but the back window is going to need to be replaced.
I have some of the original hoses, spark plug withes (2Q66) and some of the other original parts. The engine is original, and runs great, trans shifts well, 3.23 posi does not chatter.
Tires are so old they might as well be original...they got to be 40 years old.I'd replace the gas tank...gas is old... got to the brakes...but not the tank.
The motor runs like a sewing machine ...no smoke...rattles, appreciable leaks...the exhaust is so old it may be original!I did get out a can of chevy orange and paint the viewable parts of the engine...because very little paint was left on it after 40 years!
Overall...a very original car...needed some things...but the price reflects that.
Car runs and drives fine. I take it to Starbucks in the summer. Never overheats...I installed aaluminum radiator because the original Harrison leaked. The heater core was disconnected when I got it. Idon't know if it leaks.
All original body panels...uncut (Texas Car)Call me at 630 273 7595. I have a Central Dispatch account and can get you this car faster than Amazon!
