Year:

1966

Seven Hills Motorcars is exceptionally proud to offer this special and very unique 1966 Chevrolet Malibu Sport Coupe in absolutely amazing condition. The car is finished in the stunning, rare, and beautiful color combination of Tropic Turquoise (LL) over black bucket seats with a 4-speed Muncie transmission and “knee-knocker” tachometer. This exact car was featured in the “Hemmings Muscle Machines” magazine in May of 2016 with a six page article. There are photos above of the magazine and article as well as link to the article below. There is no way a similar Malibu could be purchased and restored to this level of quality for any amount near our asking price.
The previous owners of this car were extremely meticulous and also kept detailed records for maintenance and restoration work completed over the years. Accompanying the car and pictured above are close to $20,000 in receipts. Included are receipts and information for the paint job and a complete rebuild of the 327ci engine. Also included with the car are some original documentation such as the Protect-O-Plate, owners protection plan booklet showing the original owner’s name and the original dealership that sold the car new, some Indiana registrations and State inspection receipts from the 1960’s, the owner’s manual, and a reproduction window sticker.
It is exceptionally rare to find a correct and original Malibu. The vast majority of Malibu’s on the market have been modified with a different engine or cloned into something they are not like a Chevelle or SS. It is really special to find an example such as this car that has been left as a real Malibu and that fact is something to sincerely be appreciated.
With the striking color scheme, dog-dish hubcaps, and red line tires this car has a truly special look that always turns heads and get attention. Whenever we have taken this car out or people have visited our shop the color and appearance always gets complements. In fact, we were told by the previous owner that the unique and attractive look is what made the publishers of “Hemming Muscle Machines” decide to feature this car. He said that in 2016 he had this Malibu at the Good Guys car show in Columbus, OH. At the show he was approached the publishers of the magazine to do a feature. They said that out of the thousands of other cars as the show the color, wheels, and overall stock appearance of this car made it very special and made a great impression on the publishers.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Tropic Turquoise exterior is in beautiful condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open nicely with a great feel. The wheels and dog-dish hubcaps are in excellent condition with a nice finish and no curb rash. The tires have about 90% tread left and are sized 215/70R14. The chrome looks great and has a brilliant finish. The car has all correct "T-3" headlamps. There are a few years on this restoration so there will be some tiny signs of very limited use around the car. There are no major blemishes that have been intentionally excluded from the photos, but they may be some very faint imperfections that were too small to show up with the camera. As one can see in the many photos of the underside, this Malibu is totally solid. The bottom of the car is exceptionally clean and correct and the car looks nearly as good underneath as it is on top. As one can see in the photos this car has no rust issues at all and we have included specific photos of the rockers, lower quarter panels, and frame areas on the car most prone to rust to show how nice it looks.
The Malibu Coupe looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black interior of the Malibu looks utterly splendid. The seats are in like new condition with virtually no wear. The carpet is also in "like new" condition with no stains, rips, or holes. The dash is in terrific condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. All of the gauges faces are crisp and the lenses are crystal clear. The original am-fm radio is still mounted and most importantly the dash has not been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. There is an additional modern radio that has been tastefully installed below the dash that could easily be removed if a future owner wanted to do so. This car has the best of both worlds with the stock unmolested look of the original radio along with the benefit and better sound quality of a modern stereo. The door panels look excellent with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The rear package tray is in great condition with no warping or fading. The original steering wheel is still with the car and pictured above. This Malibu has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
The trunk is very clean, nicely detailed, correct, and complete with the matching spare tire and rim, jack, jack handle, jack base, bumper hook, and trunk mat.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Malibu seems to be in great mechanical condition. As stated above there are nearly $20,000 in receipts for the car so it is very well sorted mechanically. The 327ci starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives terrifically. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The car was born with a 3-speed on the tree, but the Muncie 4-Speed installation looks stock and operates great. The shifter is tight, the transmission does not pop out of gear, and the clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Malibu has plenty of power and is quite fast for its size.
Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos. The car has the correct and original air cleaner, valve covers, and other engine components. This car came new with a rare and odd Carter AVS carburetor, which is still on the car and runs great. Please review the carburetor ID breakdown in the numbers section, the carburetor still has the original ID tag screwed to it with correct part numbers and date, which are pictured above. Even very detailed items like the alternator are accurate and original with the correct part numbers.
The horn works as do all the lights, indicators, reverse lights, interior lights, wipers, and even the glove box light. All of the gauges work and even the clock works sporadically. The blower for the heater works, but can be finicky. Factory style power steering was been added to the car in 2017 and works great. It makes the car much more drivable and comfortable to use. In 2017 the car also received new springs, new shocks, a rebuilt drive shaft, gas tank and sending unit, new stabilizer links, and the newer radio at a cost of over $3,600. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this Malibu, especially with the 4-Speed transmission and the windows down on a beautiful day.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1966 Chevrolet Malibu is in marvelous condition. This is truly an investment grade classic. As stated above, there is absolutely no way someone could restore a Malibu to anywhere near this quality for any amount near our asking price. It is a very unique car with an absolutely awesome look.
The excellent restoration, the great attention to detail, and the beautiful color combination make this car especially important and nearly impossible to duplicate. This Malibu always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please email or call with any questions.
