If you are a muscle car or Camaro enthusiast you know about the 1969 RPO coded Z11 Camaro Indy Pace car convertibles. Here is a little background, just in case you don’t.Chevrolet was originally planning to build6,400 of these special edition pace cars, one for each Chevrolet dealer, but the actual production ended up being much less with only 3,675 units being built. Each was designated with the RPO code Z11. Each car was painted Dover White with Z28 style Hugger Orange stripes-the only Camaro to wear these stripes other than the Z28s. The interior included the custom deluxe package with orange and black houndstooth seat covers, wood-grained accents on the dash as well as a wood steering wheel.Buyers could get either automatic on the column shift, auto on the floor shift, or 4-speed manual on the floor shift with or without console, Rally wheels and the new ZL2 cowl induction hood were also part of the pace car package. The engine options ranged from the 350/300hp small block to the 396/375hp big block V-8s.
This car was purchased new at McDaniel Chevrolet in Murphy North Carolina and remained in that town with the original owner until the early 2000s. Then, with only about 70K miles on the clock, passed through two dealers in a short few months and ended up with the 2nd registered owner who gave the car a well-deserved rotisserie restoration. This was his centerpiece until recently. It is a true rust free, original bodied, 72k mile Z11 Pace Car, with the factory matching number drive-train. It is highly documented with original dealer invoice, dealer sales contract, broadcast sheet, warranty protecto-plate, original manual and sleeve, copies of original owner’s registrations and inspection receipts, title of original owner transferring ownership dated 1-31-2003, registrations of 2nd registered owners, and album of before and during restoration photos. This one is optioned with the factory original 350/300hp engine stamped TO312HB, floor shift 3-speed turbo-hydromatic automatic transmission with console and gauges, 12-bolt rear axle with 3:07 gears stamped BL0320G1, power steering, power front disc brakes, front and rear bumper guards, transverse exhaust, Bowtie retro-sound AM-FM stereo, and a new set of correct style Firestone Wide-Oval tires. This car has just had a complete service and freshening. It is ready for a new owner to enjoy weather it’s by driving it or adding to a collection.
