Description

Stuffing a big block into just about anything is guaranteed to make for an entertaining ride. When it's a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and you dress it up in slick LeMans Blue, then you've really got something special. Built with a professional eye and attention to detail, this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS396 Tribute gives a nod to one of the most potent muscle cars of all time. This car was originally code 57 Fathom Green, but somewhere along the... line it was freshened and treated to a coat of shiny LeMans Blue, and man are we happy that happened. Workmanship is very nicely done, so the body lines up well, gaps are good, and a cowl induction hood has been fitted in true SS fashion, complete with bright hood inserts; honestly, early Camaros just look naked without them. And just for good measure, it also got a set of hockey sticks on the front fenders, just in case you didn't notice this was a fast F-body. While there's no way to prove whether this is a real SS, the owner chose not to add the hidden headlights or grille to create a fake RS, so it has a pure performance look that is correct for an SS396. The badges that this car does carry are good reproduction items, including the Camaro script front and rear, '396' emblems on the fenders, and the proper SS badges as needed, including in the center of the blacked-out tail panel. Chrome is nice throughout, including the brightly finished front and rear bumpers, as well as the polished trim around the windshield and in the rear quarter panel "gills." There's no question this is a handsome car. Inside, you'll discover a tastefully restored black Camaro interior. The center console houses a horseshoe shifter for the automatic transmission and the new seat covers are in great shape. The dash is full of original gauges framed by an SS steering wheel, and other than the requisite SS-style gauge inlay at the top of the center console (Autometer oil & water), it's kind of refreshing not to see some aftermarket instruments stuck underneath the dash. Fresh carpets, new correct door panels, and a taut headliner all work together to create a classic Camaro look that's simultaneously no frills and ultra-cool. The AM/FM unit in the dash is new unit made to look vintage and fits properly in the stock spot in the dash. Good weather stripping cuts down on wind noise and rattles and gives the car a quality feel. In the trunk, you'll find a neat presentation and plenty of room for all your car show goodies. The engine is a stout 396 cubic inch V8, which provides more than enough horsepower to flick this '69 into the corners. Up top, there's an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor, but it's cleverly hidden under the chrome air cleaner assembly. There's also an HEI ignition system tucked out of sight at the back of the block and long-tube headers help build some power on the top end. It's correctly detailed with plain chrome valve covers, Chevy Orange paint, and beautifully detailed satin fenders and firewall. Power steering makes driving an absolute delight, and power front disc brakes bring the whole show to an abrupt stop. Underneath, this car is incredibly clean, including floors that are super solid and subframes that are unmarked. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts crisply when you need it and unobtrusively when you don't, and feeds a stout 10-bolt rear end. A newer dual exhaust system dumps out before the rear axle and gives it a great sound that is suitably aggressive but never annoying. The stance is just about perfect for a '69 Camaro, set up with American Racing Torque Thrust wheels that fill the fenders and carry 225/45/17 front and 255/45/18 performance radials. Nicely restored and with plenty of pop under the hood, this '69 Camaro is a ton of car for the money. Cars built like these never last at this price point. Call today!
