For sale: 1978 Chevrolet G30 Beauville E94 Sportvan (window van) high desert survivor from Central Montana, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. Long term owned by a local Korean war Navy veteran, and it was his pride and joy. Stored inside and well maintained. He was a mechanic, welder and machinist by trade and custom built the grille, push bar, and rear bumper in true 70s style. This is the 3/4 ton van with 8 lug wheels, it's a G30, not a G20. These vans were all the rage in the 70s, and now they are back in style and a hot item. I’ll do my best to describe this special truck below, PLEASE see the link below to Photobucket album with detail close up pics including the underside.
Exterior: Original paint still shines well. Really presents well, and draws a lot of compliments. Millennials flock to it when I stop at Starbucks. Very straight with no major dents or damage. One small ding near drip rail on driver side, and one below tail light, not noticeable, look close in pics. No rust, I’ve looked it over and don’t see any signs of corrosion, thanks to arid climate here. Van was mostly stored inside, and exceptional condition reflects that. Chrome and brightwork in good condition with no pitting. Glass is good including windshield. Please see linked Photobucket album for detail pics including underside. Just an honest survivor that’s ready to use.
Interior: Pure 1970s! Good condition with no major damage. Van was stored properly, so no rodent damage or smells. Ready for summer cruising and Cars N Coffee.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. Original 400 engine pulls strong with no noticeable smoke, noise or smoke. Transmission shifts are solid and crisp. Recent battery and exhaust. Does have a light vibration around 50mph, like a U-joint. I think everything works except radio and gauges in right pod of dash cluster – oil, amps, and temp. Will need to sort that, or install aftermarket gauges. Lights, wipers, heater, horn, etc working. A/C doesn’t blow cold. This is a vintage vehicle, it's not new and will need work from time to time. If you haven't owned older vehicles before, adjust your expectations accordingly.
Pricing/Misc: This van is NO RESERVE and will sell. 60s and 70s vans have been named by Hagerty and others as the next hot market. A decent survivor Beauville Sportvan just sold for $11k last month. Cool article here: https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2017/11/16/vintage-american-vans-to-auction Prices will only be going up. Runs and drives well, but flying in and driving it home probably isn’t a great idea, as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive it to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. I will store it after sale for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due.
