I am the second owner. Here's the history, as it was told to me by the original owner. He was discharged from the service in Texas in 1958. He took his discharge money and went to the local Chevy dealer, bought this car, and drove it home to Sonoma, California. Around 1962 he purchased the four speed transmission from Chevy and installed it. He drove the car in stock configuration until 1975, when he had it nosed and decked, repainted and pin striped. Sometime in the late 80's he installed the power steering and front disc brakes. In the early 90's he parked the Impala in his garage in Sonoma, where it remained until I bought it several years ago.
There are several things that need attention. Small things that I just haven't had time to deal with. The speedometer quit a couple of months ago. I believe it's the cable. The inside door handle on the driver's side isn't working. Something let go inside the door. The front seat brackets need to be repaired or replaced. There is a split in the driver's side seat bottom under the back cushion. The transmission shift linkage could use adjusting. There's a small exhaust leak on the left side of the engine when it's cold. Recently the power steering has become stiff. Might just be an adjustment. I don't know.
The Impala is a blast to drive and has been totally dependable. It draws attention like you can't believe and has been a big hit at every show I've taken it to. The 60's hot rod style is pretty cool and it has survived in its current configuration since 1975. It's definitely not a 100 point show car but it is a very presentable driver. If you have any questions use the "ask a question" feature in the listing and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you.
