I don't know what to say but it's time. After owning and loving my convertible since 1984 I must sadly let her go.I fell in love with her in Junior High school. We met on a class trip while I was still a young man.Saw her in the parking lot and knew we had a connection.Broke away from the tour group and found the owner!Yes, she belonged to the Guidance Secretary Joan H.Joan was very insisten when I asked her if I could buy her car: "They are going to bury me in that car ! " she said. Anyway we stayed in touch and low and behold after many false starts (insert Cliff Notes story here, many trials and tribulations ( two sons that were offered the car) Joan H capitulated and sold me the car !She wrote me a letter and told me she would sell the car to me basically under some protest! It took about 11 years---persistence overcomes resistance!I bought the car in June of 1984 and have had her ever since!
But sadly, she must go. "Elizabeth" (as her previous owner maned her) has been sitting for too long. After a failed attempt to sell her to a very famous friend in 2008, she has been sitting, forlorn but not forgotten, in my garage, quietly waiting for something, someone.I no longer have the initiative or ambition to do anything with her.So if you love someone, set them free!
I am the second owner of this original 1962 Chevrolet Impala Convertible.Purchased 35 years ago from the original owner she has been in my family and been pampered since.
Elizabeth is a fairly simple car; 283 Powerglide with manual steering and brakes.Honduras maroon with a black top and interior.Joan H had her painted her Cadillac Firemist (somewhat close to the original color) in 1974. In addition, she got a new top and a front seat bottom cover (original is still underneath). The only thing that I did to her was I broke the rear glass window the first 5 minutes she was in my driveway!I listened to Joan and unzipped the glass window but soon it was shattered and glass was everywhere!
She has perhaps 150 or so thousand miles.Somewhere I have about half of her service life documented by the original owner, much of it from the local dealer, Frog Hollow Chevrolet in Bethpage NY,.
She has her issues as shown-some rust through on the quarters, rear wheel wells and trunk floor, body mounts etc. Got dented at night while sitting in front of my house (front driver's fender)Remember enamel paint over the original lacquer so it is cracked, crazed and dull. Some foot well rot through on the drivers and passenger side if I remember correctly.Rocker panel rot also. The convertible top motor runs but there is a leak in the system so the top does not function.Noisy rocker arm due to a worn valve stem. Some blow by--- remember it has about 150 thousand on her.Shifts ok last time I drove it in 2008.
Now the last time was in 2008. I drove it for about two weeks around the neighborhood. She ran and stopped fine. She has been sitting for 11 years so no guarantees on any functionality. When I ran her the last time I only had to put air in the tires, put anew batter and some fresh gas. Started immediately with no issuers.Remember, Elizabeth has been sitting for many years and she is old technology which may work in your favor! Hate, hate, hate to sell her but its time and she needs a new owner to love and cherish her !Please feel free to contact me with any questions !the pictures here are from 2008 and remember she has been garage kept since so she has flat tires !If you purchase her you need to come with a flatbed to carrier her away safely !Thanks for listening to my story ! Please feel free to ask me any questions. Sincerely, paper...train.
