Vehicle History:
This is a rare truck with low miles. It's fun to drive and ride in, and it's always a head turner. Purchased the truck from a rancher in far East Oregon 2 1/2 years ago. He bought the truck in Portland brand new in 1982. The truck is essentially in factory/stock format, with the exception of an optional factory 3 inch lift kit. I drove it daily for 1 1/2 years, then drove it from Seattle to Austin. Since, I've been in Texas a little over a year and have had the truck in a carport on my property (covered parking). Still fires right up and is full of fluids, I took these photos yesterday. That being said like with most vintage rigs, it needs some work. Please take a look below.
Known Mechanical Issues:
A. Slow head gasket oil drip.
B. Above drip is getting onto clutch assembly, as a result the truck requires extra finesse to get a smooth start in Low or First gear as oil is getting in there. I can drive it smooth, some cannot. **Truck still tows, still works, no transmission slippage. New head gasket, clean up clutch assembly / maybe resurface the clutch -- only <5,000 miles on this clutch.
C. Driver’s side front brake is not powering. Needs to be addressed before cruising on public roads as it pulls to the passenger side under braking.D. 4WD is not engaging, although all running gear is there. Lever will shift into place but still only rear wheels turn. I have not explored this yet. I have driven the truck in mountain snow, it moves through well.
E. Steering pump hums under heavy turning and can be hard to turn <5mph. It's new, mechanic tells me this is normal for these big trucks. If I were keeping it, I would replace the pump from a newer model.F. Drivers side window requires a bit of assistance with your free hand to roll it down, still works good as ever otherwise.G. Secondary fuel tank switch not working. Simply runs just fine on the single primary tank. Secondary tank is cleaned and ready for fuel, however switch or wiring needs to be repaired to be able to use both fuel tanks.
