To compete with the Cobra, GM built the Grand Sport, it resembled the road going Corvette Coupe, but under the fiberglass body it was a completely new car. 100 examples were to be produced but only five were completed. All of these cars were equipped with coupe bodies. Two of the coupes were decapitated for better aerodynamics at the high speed tracks. Due to their exceptional rarity, the ill-fated Grand Sport racers are the most highly sought after of all Corvettes. The originals sell for $6-8 million.
Our Grand Sport reproduction was purchased in February 2007 from ProTeam Corvette. It was advertised as coming from the Mark Tate and Pat Lally collection.
It has a 377 cubic inch Bowtie block with SK side draft carbs and super T-10 transmission with line lock. The body is Rally Red with a Black/Red combo interior. The car has a custom tube chassis with a Corvette C-4 suspension, Mid-America body, Koni coil-over shocks and Halibrand (front 8"x15" - rear 10"x15") polished knock-off aluminum wheels. This vehicle has power steering and a custom aluminum exhaust.
The car is titled in Virginia as a 1988 Corvette. It was purchased with 15,029 miles and during the 12 years in our collection, only 300 miles were added.
