1970 el Camino with 2013 ZL1 Camaro LSA Engine with Tremec 6 Speed Transmission

Base car was 350 - 4 speed SS clone in decent shape. (See last photo). Over the past 3 years the body was totally disassembled, frame sanded & painted, new rear suspension added with rebuilt 12 bolt rear end from Curran/Ohio, new shocks and airbags installed. Front suspension, front disk and rear drum brakes were rebuilt. Complete body undercarriage sheet metal replaced including rear bed, rear interior back panel, complete floors, firewall smoothed, New GM-OEM left rear full quarter also available to install if desired. All new body part protect with Lizard Skin finish. NO Rust - body is now factory new including new chrome front and rear bumpers. All new body/frame suspension bushings installed. Replacement/used, rust-free doors brought in from Oregon, sand blasted, primed and set-up for One Piece glass ([link removed by eBay]). Hood sandblasted and primed, complete new rear tailgate from Dynacore still in box. All tailgate, hood and door hinges rebuilt. SS dash, also from Oregon installed ready for digital gauges. All new wiring from American Auto Wire installed[link removed by eBay].

Body has been remounted back on frame and now requires the following:
  • -Strip paint from remainder of body, roof and front clip.
  • -Install new GM Left Quarter panel:
  • -Fix any rust found while stripping paint (should be minimal)
  • -Finish rear fender joints, install taillights and new (aftermarket) tailgate
  • -Connect and wire cooling fans for trans and engine, mount relays etc
  • -Install/align doors:
  • -Install/align new hood:
  • -Install headlight trim
  • -Install bed lift panel for battery access
  • -Correct all panel gaps, set to 3/16":
  • -Complete all rough body work (blocked with 80 and 180 grit):
  • -Prime:
  • -Block primer round 1: block with 180 and 220 grit
  • -Primer
  • -Block primer round 2: Block with 320 and 400 grit:
  • -Final paint - your color choice.

A 2013 LSA, supercharged engine (6.2 liter) and 6 speed Tremec transmission with just 17,000 miles was purchased from a totaled 2013 ChevroletCamaro ZL1in 2015.

VIN 2G1FZ1EP5D9800552.([link removed by eBay]) offers 580 hp @ 6000rpm, 560 lb-ft torque from the factory. The Camaro pedals and shift console were also utilized. Custom engine mounts, trans cross-member and mount, new drive shaft with integral splined slip shaft with new U-joints were fabricated and installed. New, low profile oil pan by Moroso - High Clearance Oil Pan Kit installed for clearance. Oil Pan kit includes oil pan, windage tray, pickup tube, hardware and gasket. New, twin electric coolers from Derale for both engine oil and transmission were installed[link removed by eBay]. New engine computer and harness were procured from Speartec along new 95 pound injectors,[link removed by eBay]. New, custom gas tank with side filler with electronic fuel pump also installed. AC/alternator relocation kit from GM installed along with new inter-cooler and custom dual electric fan radiator from Griffon. Stock air-box retained making installation look like factory (see photos). Twin Optima yellow batteries with custom cables were relocated to rear bed smugglers area along with custom set-up for sound system ($1800 in components alone). Has bucket seats, and many, many other new parts needed to finalize this project. This swap now runs and drives - will demonstrate.

This setup is now disassembled, being prepped for paint and final re-assembly.
