1942 Chevrolet ¾ ton truck, Vin #21BL12446. 125” wheelbase
I purchased this truck in October 2002 from John Fillaus in Scotland South Dakota. John was the grandson of the original purchaser, his grandfather. It was a low mileage truck with zero rest except a spot the size of a dime on the lower part of the back of the cab. This was a farm truck and was being used continually right up until the day I purchased it. It originally came with a 216 motor and a 4 speed transmission.
In early 2006 I began a complete frame off restoration. All body parts were removed and media blasted to bare metal. The frame was media blasted and then primed and painted black. The rear fenders had some tears in them so I purchased a pair of better quality fenders and had them installed. I also replaced the front bed panel and the tailgate with reproduction pieces. This truck is ALL steel. The paint job was completed in mid 2006 at a cost exceeding $20,000.00. The colors are Amour yellow (2004 Hummer competition yellow) and India Ivory. The fit and finish are nice but not perfect. A new oak wood bed was installed and a new reproduction windshield frame. The upholstery was redone as well as a new fiberglass headliner. I also installed a Boese gauge panel and Autometer white face gauges.
We did a repower in 2008 with a Chevrolet Performance GM 350ci/290 SBC V8 Base Crate Engine. Also we installed a GM TH350 transmission and a 3.90-1 replacement third member. We drove the truck with this set up until March of 2017. Our latest improvements started in 2017 and were completed in late 2018 to early 2019. We upgraded the automatic transmission to a Bowtie Overdrives 700R4 level 1 and a new C400HDT torque converter and a Lokar shifter.. We also had the front end completely rebuilt with new springs, new u-bolts, king pins, tie rod ends, seals & drag link. The brakes were completely redone with an under floor board mount dual chamber 1 1/8” master cylinder and 8” power brake booster. The rear axle seals were replaced, drums turned, new shoes & springs etc. Great stopping power on this truck. Four new TOYO radial tires and tubes were added to the original powder coated artillery rims. We installed a new Edelbrock 4 barrel carb, a DUI HEI distributor, new spark plus wires and spark plugs. We also added the Speedway RAMS HORN exhaust manifolds and a new 2.5” exhaust from the rams horns to the mufflers. Next was to install a new Vintage Air gen 4 AC and heat system….this is more than enough to cool and heat this cab in minutes. The grill was re-chromed as well as the bumpers. The floor and floorboard have a sound deadening material and well as felt and a new rubber mat. There are about 2500 miles on this truck since the repower and less than 1000 miles on the truck since the latest upgrades. The bed wood is not in the best shape but is presentable. IF you plan on showing this truck I would replace the bed wood. We recently cleaned and sanded the wood and sprayed 5 coats of glamour clear on it. This has been a labor of love and more money than I want to admit too. I am thinning out my collection of classic cars and trucks….so I am hoping this goes to a good home. It is built as a cruiser and a driver…not a show queen. I have entered in one car show and it took first place in its class. The truck is 77 years old and is sold AS-IS. There is not a written or verbal warranty. The purchaser is responsible for all transportation after purchase. The title in my company’s name and is clear and ready for transfer. Payment can be made in cash in person, certified bank cashier’s check or wire transfer. Release of the vehicle will not be done until payment clears both banks. The California YOM plates are not included in the purchase price but can be purchased separately if desired. I have included a few photos showing what it looked like when I got it and during the frame off restoration.
