Description

The '66 Chevrolet Chevelle is certainly a contender for the world's most popular muscle car, and for good reason. One look at this real deal, code 138 1966 SS 454 hardtop tells you all you need to know about why they're so beloved: great looks, timeless styling, and plenty of room for long-distance cruising. Add in big block power, a 4-speed, and an awesome color combination, and you've got a car that hits only high notes. Repainted... to a very high standard, the slick Chateau Slate paint is absolutely stunning. With minimal use since it was restored it shows practically zero wear, of course, but that also means someone really looked after it like it was a member of the family. And honestly, isn't it easy to see yourself washing and waxing this baby on a Saturday afternoon in preparation for a cruise-in that night? For many, the appeal of the '66 models is the careful blending of the old-school quarters and rear end with a more forward-looking nose to create an icon. Plenty of chrome sets off the deep gray finish, all of it beautifully restored and glittering like jewelry. There are correct 'Super Sport' badges on the flanks, as well as a blacked-out SS grille that would be a trademark for all the fastest Chevys for years to come. With laser-straight panel alignment, doors that fit great, and those cool chrome hood inserts, this is a car that gets attention whenever you park it. It's not a sleeper, but it doesn't need to advertise, either, and that's why everyone seems to love it. The mid-1960s were all about simplicity in design, and like the exterior, the black bucket seat interior is a study in careful restraint. Forget faux wood, this Chevy uses bright metal trim to contrast with the black interior, giving the dashboard a jeweled look that's like a fine clock or vintage stereo gear. The upholstery was replaced when the car was restored, and has a very inviting look with nary any signs of use, wear, or other defects. Instead, all you want to do is slide behind the three-spoke steering wheel, listening to the comfortable groan of the seat as you settle in, and grab that wonderfully textured steering wheel. The auxiliary gauges below the dash and column-mounted tachometer are welcomed upgrades, highlighted by a B&M t-handle shifter for the 4-speed that juts out of the floorboard. An AM/FM/cassette stereo lives in the dash and one glance in the trunk tells you all you need to know about how solid and well-finished this car really is. The Chevelle is very, very clean. Performance got a big upgrade as well, thanks to a thumping 454 cubic inch big block under the hood. Aside from an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake, it's pretty stock, and it starts easily and idles with enough of a lope to let folks know it's no pushover. Bright chrome on the valve covers and air cleaner shines against the Chevy Orange engine enamel and beautifully painted inner fenders and smoothed firewall. Underneath, a fresh clutch and pressure plate feed a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and a robust 12-bolt posi rear end with 3.31 gears, and long tube headers exhale through a brand new set of Thrush mufflers on the 2.5" exhaust that exits underneath the rear bumper for just the right sound. The stance is exactly right, not too low but not like mom's grocery-getter, either, and with slick oversized Rallys and 215/55/17 front and 235/55/17 rear performance radials, it looks fast just sitting still. This is an extremely nice big block A-body with a powerful big block, manual gearbox, and incredible bodywork, all at a very reasonable price compared to what it would cost to duplicate this fantastic build.
