1959 Chevrolet 3800 Panel Truck - RUNS AND DRIVES - 1 ton VERY RARE * EXCELLENT
Description
1959 Chevrolet 3800 Panel Truck DeLuxe
Selling my 1959 panel truck. After owning for about 12 years it's time to pass it on. I've been driving it very regularly, and at this point it does run and drive. The truck was bought on Dec 21st 1959 by the TX Highway Patrol. I have the original invoice. After that it was passed on to the University of TX, then someone bought it at auction, who sold it to a motorcycle dealer just south of Austin, who eventually sold it to me. It's been my moving truck from Austin to North MS to South Alabama, where it's been since 2011. Never been in salt or snow.
Please read the whole description. There's a lot of information, but I'm trying to give as much details as possible. The truck is currently registered and insured in AL. It will come with an AL bill of sale (no titles here pre- 1973), as well as a TX title in my name.
The good: it runs beautifully (check out the video I linked), and drives and stops. A lot of bodywork was done, including some new steel. The transmission was professionally rebuilt a few months ago because of whining synchro gears. The rear end was rebuilt a few years ago because the pumpkin bearing went out. The battery was installed a few months ago. There is barely any rust except for the door bottoms. Hitch installed. Comes with a number of parts, listed below in detail. DeLuxe heater, chrome emblems. The roof is perfectly straight. Tires are great.
The bad: the door bottoms are rusted through and need new steel in the bottom, or just new doors. It needs two new tire valves. It loses some oil (rear main maybe). The hand brake needs to be adjusted. The heater installed (pretty much completely included). Speedo works intermittetnly. radio works intermittently (more no than yes). And... then of course a long list of things, as you can see in the pictures. Please ask if you have any questions. I've tried to document as detailed as possible.
It comes with a lot of extra parts. The complete DeLuxe heater assembly, might miss a few screws or a hose. The control unit is brand new, also comes with the original. There are 3 hubcaps. The chrome emblems, including a bonus broken one. A spare speedometer unit. A lot of small parts like gaskets etc. Two oil filters. A brake booster that needs to be rebuilt. A factory shop manual. A transmission jack. A lot of engine parts. An extra wheel. Original jump seat. Etc...
