Description

This listing is intended only for those who either truly love square bodied Chevy step sides or want to invest some time and money and turn a nice profit. I just recently made a nice purchase and--owing to age and decrepitude on my part--have no wish to either refurbish and sell or keep. Way too much truck for this 71-year old car junkie. Anyway, here is what I know about the truck (keep in mind that I managed a GM specialty wrecking yard in Seattle in the eighties for five years and owned my own collector car yard for twenty five years specializing in GM): I bought the truck in dry Idaho and, from what I was told by the prior owner, it came out of California. This would explain a body shell (cab and bed) which are basically rust free. Rockers and cab corners are shown in pictures and, other than clean up, seem to need nothing. Same with the floors. The step side .came with factory air and full-time 4WD. Also factory dual tanks. The engine was replaced at some time with a complete rebuild 350 (my guess less than ten thousand miles ago) and runs excellent. TH350 shifts fine (although a little jumpy going from low to second gear) and runs down the road fairly well. The wood underlayment of the bed needs replacing although the diamond plate is a nice touch as well. The original A/C body is in very good condition although it wears several coats of paint. It looks like yellow was the factory color and I am guessing it may have been ordered special that way by some government agency or the other. Now comes the weird part: The hood (rusted at the lip), both doors (unrusted but ugly with damage and speaker holes) and fenders (dogleg cancer on both) cane off of a completely different rig. The seat (newer Chevy) is in very good condition although not original for the truck. Glass good, Nice bumpers. A/C compressor and brackets missing, dash pad cracked, carpet shot, fancy steering wheel, nice pair of tires and wheels on the back, fronts don't match. The transfer case is inoperable although my mechanic has a 203 rebuilt for a C-note. I guess what I am trying to say is that this rust free, western half-ton step side 4WD square bodied Chevrolet is waiting for somebody to put time and a fair amount of cash into it. In this condition, it is rare (despite the awful condition of the bolt-on sheet metal). NADA low book is $7850 with an average book of $15,400/. If you have followed the values of these square bodied step sides, you will know the starting price is more than fair and it is being sold with a clean title and can be driven away.
