Description

1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe

With its wind-swept design and classic good looks, the Chevrolet Coupe series has always been a rare and highly desirable line of cars. Not surprisingly, gear heads, customizers and all but 80 years' worth of dedicated fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding's greatest cultural icons.

Custom built, this 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe street rod is truly masterful in every way. A very well-built piece in the grand old-school tradition, it maintains a stock appearance with just the right exterior touches to suggest there is more at work here than meets the eye, and it does not disappoint.

Exterior
The Chevy's rounded sheet metal was expertly prepared for the car's highly polished black base coat, then clear coat finish, which is highlighted with all excellent chrome and brightwork. The curved front grille flanked by large fender mounted bullet style headlights and smaller flanking turn signal bullets is very representative of the design of this car. In these prewar years, fenders were still king with the running board attaching them, but they were beginning to integrate into the body shell. On the rear we see 2 small LED taillights bullet style, protruding from the otherwise smooth nearly fenderless rear trunk area. Beautiful 15-inch chrome wire wheels are wrapped by 195/60-R15 front tires and 215/75-R15's on the rear.

Interior
Stitched saddle brown leather in a split bench upfront, and bench on the rear, uses tuck and roll wide pattern to add dimension and comfort. Stretching from door to door, and even on the pristine restored door panels, it is contrasted by a gorgeous lacquered wood dash complete with art deco numberings and lettering. The center of the dash is dripping with vertical ribbed chrome and houses an ashtray, choke and heater controls in bakelite. On the passenger side a beautiful clock sits in the center of the glovebox door panel also in lacquered wood. Black carpet covers the floors, and tan floor mats are protecting it, and adding some bling to the floors. A nice tight headliner in off white hangs tightly above all the interior. Not to be left out, the trunk has been lined with saddle leather, and carpeted just for kicks too!

Drivetrain
A 1980's 350ci V8 truck engine now powers this car and does so with little effort. It shows well with all billet and chromed aluminum accoutrements. A new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor is on top, and TH350 3-speed automatic transmission has been recently re-sealed. A 10-bolt pumpkin brings up the rear. This all looks fab in front of the silver painted textured firewall. (Now that's attention to detail!)

Undercarriage
Looking underneath, we see an absolute and total restoration with jet black suspension, floorpans rust free frame, and all mechanicals appear to have new bolts, wiring and tubing snaking through to all 4 corners. A nice job under here. A Mustang II front end and new leaf spring rear suspensions are seen and 4-wheel power drum brakes for authenticity.

Drive-Ability
Just a pleasure to drive as it started immediately, and ran like it was going out of style, this car steers smoothly, shifts easily, and gave me a big car ride feel, even though all the while I'm inside a 2 door. One thing worth mentioning is that the baffle in one of mufflers has come loose and rattles.

As close to near perfection as we dare go, this Master Deluxe is truly standing by its name, masterfully restored, and deluxe in its fit, finishes and power...Master Deluxe with smile he says.
