Description

1970 Chevelle SS clone, I built this car with my dad in a 2 car garage on our spare time. The car was originally from North Dakota and the owner moved to Washington in the 80’s and it was a drag car. In the Early 90’s he tore the car apart to build a custom frame and was going to give it a makeover. It ended up sitting in his garage for the next 20 years and I purchased it in 2012. We did all of the rear tub work and metal work in the trunk. We could not get any kind of steering to work on the front end with a engine mounted. I decided to buy a stock frame and grafted the front of the stock frame to the aftermarket rear custom frame. We reinforced the frame, mocked up all of the suspension, verified it was square and bodymounts lined up and then pulled the body off of the car again. The frame then was painted gloss Black, the suspension was color matched and the brakes and fuel lines ran. We mounted the engine and trans and broke in the cam while the body was not on the car. The car went on a rotisserie and the metal work was finished on the bottom side, undercoated, fire wall was smoothed out and jams got painted, the body work was done while on the rotisserie as well. We put the body on the frame for the final time and we finished the prep work for paint. I bought new metal fenders. My brother and I painted the car and then had it cut and buffed and we started the reassembly. After the car was finished I drove it to a couple of local shows for a couple of years on a weld racing wheel with 31 inch tall by 15 wide and pizza cutters on the front. In 2018 I bought the new wheels and tires. I had to shorten the rear end another 1.5 inches on each side and had the axles cut down and ground new splines. The wheels are a 3 piece wheel that are color matched 24x15 in the rear with Pirelli P-Zero tires,22x8.5 up front with Pirelli P zero tires. I have a ton of time and love into this car but I have my eye on another project and cant built that without letting a toy go. I have 800+ pictures of the build and can answer anyquestions you have. Thank you for taking the time to read the story on the car.
