Description

1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan

Dinah Shore was the first female talk show host, and at the end of each show she would sing the jingle "see the USA in your Chevrolet" talk about a marketing coup!

For consignment the top of the line Bel Air for 1956 with a replacement 350ci V8 crate motor, and an older restoration with midcentury modern colors, and an interior restored to original colors looking like the interior of a Silk City Diner.

Exterior
India Ivory covers the upper roof and rear of this car. It is delineated by a trim spear where we see Pinecrest Green below. Panels are straight, and gaps are good. Some surface rust in the form of bubbling can be seen on the lower panels, and areas of touch up are noted throughout. Chrome bumpers are good, and trim is shiny with slight dimpling in a few areas. The Bel Air badging and Chevrolet script in your grandmothers handwriting is good. 15-inch chromed steel wheels with dog dish style caps are wrapped in thin whites and are seen on all 4 corners. A shout to the rear brake lights with a nifty blue "dot" bowtie in the centers of the red lights.

Interior
Looking like the original but very nicely preserved, with door panels that sport dark green tuck and roll uppers, a Pinecrest Green vinyl stitched covers the mid-section, and more dark green smooth vinyl below create a field for the shiny handles and cranks. Looking toward the front bench nifty fifty design appends with dark green broadcloth inserts tie the backs forming a duplicating V pattern and Pinecrest green vinyl bolsters. These panels are bordered by a silver metallic flat piping and a silver button at the bottom of the V. The rear bench emulates this snazzy pattern is looking showroom and has seen little action. Black clean carpet covers the floors throughout. Hanging above is the dual fan shapes dash front which has a stitched padded dash top, and wonderful horizontal ribbed chrome middle with painted metal below. Bezels and knobs are pristine. In the middle we see a vintage replacement AM/FM radio complete with rear deck dual speakers. A gaggle of aftermarket gauges hangs below the center of the dash.

Drivetrain
A raise of the hood, and there is now a 350ci V8 under there. Its topped by a 4-barrel Quadrajet carb, and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is strapped to the back of the 350 cubes. All is looking good under here.

Undercarriage
Plenty of patina and road dirt is under here with some invasive rust on a few of the body hangers, and tank straps. Also, areas of additional concern are on the front crossmember, and in front of the rear quarters below have been ravaged by invasive rust. Plenty of rustproofing is painted over many of these surfaces. Also, under doors have heavy surface rust bordering invasive.

Drive-Ability
The car runs smooth and quiet, accelerates nicely and shifts smoothly automatically. It has a nice cruising altitude if you will, and an overall comfortable seating and ride.

The 3-owner car has undergone an earlier restoration, with some of the exterior panels starting to show surface rust, and a beautiful 50's interior. Solid power plant, and some invasive rust below, a nicely colored example of the mid Tri Five era on the high end in the form of a Bel Air trim.
