This exquisitely beautiful 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was the recipient of a National Corvette Restorers Society Top Flight Award as a result of a comprehensive frame-off restoration executed at an estimated cost of $125,000. Corvette performance took a significant leap forward in 1965, when Chevrolet upgraded its mechanical specifications with the long-awaited introduction of 4-wheel disc brakes and an optional 396 CI big-block V-8 engine that boasted an exhilarating 425 HP and 415 lb-ft of torque. These two important improvements might have overshadowed another new engine offering, the 4-barrel equipped L79 327/350 HP small-block, but, by year’s end, sales of this new hydraulic-cammed, high-compression powerplant were more than double that of the fire-breathing 396, proving that most buyers still preferred the more balanced performance of a small-block-powered Corvette. This superb 1965 Sting Ray convertible retains its matching-numbers L79 matched to the requisite Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in Milano Maroon paint with a black interior and matching soft top, it further features goldline tires on finned aluminum knock-off wheels. An accompanying file includes a folder of documentation and ownership history, as well as copies of NCRS judging sheets.
