Description

Fresh from a nut-and-bolt restoration, this 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible is ready to charm you with its award-worthy style. And while it has an absolutely vintage appearance, this one has also been given all the best upgrades nicely integrated - everything from added power to the V8, to cold-blowing air conditioning. So it's also the kind of drop-top icon that's ready to hit the road.
This drop-top has spent nearly two-thirds of its life under the same ownership, and in 2015, it was decided that this long-term classic needed to be brought back to its best. It was a five-year journey to get everything back in top quality. This was a big investment of time and money by professional restorers, and as you can see, it was absolutely worth every penny. The reason to invest so heavily in a 1960 Impala (besides the fact this one was like a family member) is because this Chevy really has style. Both the trim around the grille and the big/bright front bumper wrap around the front end. There's a crease that starts after the headlights, and it gets more pronounced as the runs the full length of the car. In fact, once it gets to the end, it helps form the tailfins that integrated into the sleekly dipping trunk. And there are terrific details everywhere from the dual aerials to the bright trim that frame the hallmark six taillight arrangement. The factory-correct Roman Red paint has the high-gloss looks of a new professional application, and its luster loves to show off how straight they got the sheetmetal. Plus, we love how the jet-inspired side trim is follows by a streak of white. It coordinates with the new white folding roof and whitewall tires to deliver a subtle two-tone that looks as all-American as a Coca-Cola bottle.
With the flip of a switch, the roof powers down. Because everything was done during the restoration, right down to the folding top's gaskets, there is a quality feeling in all the right operations. Besides, they wanted to make sure it was easy to get this roof down to show off the stellar interior. The '60s were all about great color coordination inside and out, so the red with white accents returns inside. We especially like how the two colors intertwine for the houndstooth-like inserts in the seats and doors. They took the time to make sure this looks correctly vintage, and since the restoration is so recent, everything feels fresh - right down to the grip of the artful steering wheel. Even the trunk is well-done with the correct mat, full-size whitewall spare, and jacking instructions. But while this is supposed to feel like a 1960s time capsule, there were also the right well-integrated upgrades for modern times. The radio is a retro-style AM/FM digital tuner w/aux input for the best in driving music. And the cold-blowing R134a air conditioning makes for a great top-down experience, even in the summertime.
The engine bay is just as clean, fresh, and correct-looking as the rest of the car. You'll even love the details, like the GM branded hoses and the decals. This is believed to be the correct-spec 283 cubic-inch V8. We now know how agreeable these small blocks are for upgrades, and so this has added power from an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake. Of course, it's hard to first see these improvements, because it was done with a detailed eye, including the correct Chevy orange and the big black air topper. They even rebuilt the generator to keep this looking correct but running strong. The V8 fires up readily, and makes a subtly sweet tune from the dual exhaust. As you look at the undercarriage photos, the freshness of the components really tells you why this one feels confident on the road. Plus, you have power steering, a Powerglide automatic transmission, and power brakes with upgraded front discs. So it's easy to enjoy this freshly restored drop-top.
The sale comes complete with restoration photos, maintenance records, and build receipts documenting the big investment in this long-term classic. There are even nice extras, like a car cover, convertible boot, and rear side skirts. This Impala is fresh, vintage, and expertly upgraded in all the right places.
