Do you like sleeper cars, ones that are all go but still have a classic stock appearance? Then come by to check this one out -MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this Marina Blue 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu 8 Sport Coupe. This Malibu still retains a stock and correct appearance but is concealing a L79 high performance 327cid 350HP V8 engine from 1968, four speed on the floor, 12 bolt rear main and a beefed up suspension on a clean and straight frame off restored body… this is not your everyday Chevelle!

Assembled at Chevrolet’s Flint, Michigan facility, this extra clean Malibu 8 Sport Coupe was originally delivered to Paul McGlone Chevrolet at 19000 Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan (now George Matick Chevrolet in Redford, Michigan). A Mr. Kobylinski of Detroit bought it on June 16, 1966. Dressed in Marina Blue paint (code F) with an optional black vinyl interior (code 761A), this is a muscle car. It has no air-conditioning, no power steering or power brakes. A Mr. Sayles of Carleton, Michigan bought the car on August 26, 2008.

Under the hood is a highly sought after RPO optioned L79 327 CID Turbo-fire high-performance (engine code V1226HP) V-8 engine from 1968, making 350 horsepower. It is buttoned to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter and a 12-bolt rear end. The Malibu’s suspension has been beefed up and has large front and rear sway bars. There is a Moroso radiator handling the cooling duties, high performance high flow exhaust headers and a set of Flowmaster exhausts on the car, complete with a horizontal crossover pipe connecting the tailpipes which sounds absolutely amazing with this high performance 327 and double hump heads!

The correct Marina Blue paint is in great shape, as are all of the vehicle’s glass panels and lights – no cracks or haze. The 14-inch factory rallye wheels are in good shape and nestled within Road Handler SLR 205/70R14 tires in front and 235/70R15 Michelin XW4 tires in back, all with good tread. The bumpers are in good shape for their age. All body panels are extremely straight and all exterior trim pieces are present. The engine bay, complete with blue flames painted on the inner fenders, and the car’s battery are in great shape, as is the trunk, where the original tire jack is located.

Inside, the original optional black vinyl front bench seat are in very good shape for being original, as is the matching carpet. The headliner is in excellent shape with a good-looking two-spoke steering wheel setting off the dashboard, which is crack-free and the interior door panels are in good shape. The package shelf has no issues and both side and rearview mirrors are clear and intact. Along with the factory speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge, there is an Actron tachometer mounted on the steering column and Actron oil pressure, voltmeter and water temperature gauges mounted under the dash. In the dash is a Ken Harrison AM/FM stereo with cassette deck.

The mid-sized Chevelle bridged the gap between the full-size Impala and compact Chevy II. Nineteen sixty-six saw a complete restyle of the Chevelle on the previous frame that included smooth contours, a broad new grille and bumper treatment and curved side windows. Bulging rear fender lines and a “flying buttress” roofline (tunneled into the “C” pillar) were highlights of the ’66 hardtops, shared with other GM “A” body models. The new body reflected the “Coke bottle” body shape that became the fad for American cars in the mid-1960s. A four-door hardtop-styled Sport Sedan joined the Malibu series. It was an attractive car and was offered through 1972, but never achieved the high-production figures as the pillared sedan. Chevelles continued in 300, 300 Deluxe, and Malibu trim.

The Chevelle was intended to compete with the Ford Fairlane and Plymouth Belvedere and to return to the Chevrolet lineup a model similar in size and concept to the popular 1955-57 models. Enthusiasts were quick to notice that the Chevelle’s 115-inch wheelbase was the same as that of the 1955-57 Chevy.

Car comes with original window sticker, original title from General Motors Acceptance Corporation in its original envelope, postmarked December 13, 1968, original Chevrolet Owner’s Manual in original plastic sleeve, original custom feature accessories guide, original Chevrolet 24-month/24,000 mile warranty details, original Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan, including vehicle Protect-O-Plate, plus instructions for the aftermarket tachometer, oil pressure, voltmeter, water temperature gauges and stereo.

Competing vehicles to this car in 1966 included Ford’s Fairlane and Plymouth’s Belvedere and to a lesser degree, Pontiac’s Tempest, Oldsmobile’s Cutlass and Buick’s Special.

Current mileage on the odometer shows 50,105 actual miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
