Description

This 1936 Chevrolet two door sedan is an all-steel rod that gets big points for style and comfort. Far less common than Fords, this bowtie cruiser will stand out from the crowd and not just because of the bright red paint job, big block powerplant, and chopped top.Look closely at this 1936 Chevy and you'll see a ton of cool details like the louvered hood, the wrap-around grille, and the flush-mounted door handles that help with the sleek look. Of course, the chopped top gives it that traditional hot rod rake and was so neatly done that it seems to emphasize the car's lines rather than overpowering them. And without a top-quality finish, it's all academic, and fortunately the guys who built this one back in the '80s were pros. The body fits together well, with decent gaps and excellent shut lines all around, every bit as good as it was when it was new. Much the factory trim was shaved, including the side trim, door handles, and taillights, and with the bumpers removed, it takes on an entirely new look. On top of all that, it has been bathed in that eyeball-searing red paint and this Chevy wears it well, giving the car a unique look that bridges the gap between 1936 and today. It's got some signs of use, but the overall look is going to earn you some attention whether you like it or not.Inside there's a nicely finished red interior with comfortable bucket seats up front and a custom rear bench that makes this a comfortable cruiser for four. The dash has been fitted with VDO gauges fitted into original-looking dash panels that retain the symmetrical look it had originally. The center stack contains air vents for the A/C system, and there's a custom panel underneath with secondary controls and an AM/FM/cassette stereo system. Custom door panels maintain the retro feel on the ultra-wide doors and the matching red carpets make it feel upscale and polished rather than hot rod basic. There's plenty of room for even tall drivers and despite the chopped top, visibility is very good in all directions, making this a rod you can drive with confidence. Other upgrades include power windows, a tilt steering column with wood-rimmed wheel, and floor mats with custom embroidery.Road trips are easy with the thundering 454 cubic inch V8 living under the hood. Built for the road, it provides effortless thrust at any speed. It was probably dressed to impress when it was first finished many years ago, but it has mellowed into simply a car you can drive anywhere. The 454 valve covers are familiar, there's an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor up top, and well-packaged accessories up front. The block was painted to match the bodywork and the packaging is rather remarkable when you realize that this car originally carried an inline-6 engine. The transmission is a TH400 3-speed automatic, which doesn't mind the big block's torque and it spins a trick Corvette independent rear end, so it handles surprisingly well. Up front, an independent A-arm suspension allows that low, raked stance, and there are disc brakes at all four corners. A custom dual exhaust system features mellow-sounding mufflers and a good-sized fuel tank allows this Chevy to cruise all day. Stylish 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels offer a hot rod look that works rather well, and they're wrapped in staggered blackwall radials. This awesome Chevy represents a huge bang for the buck, a fully-sorted rod that's ready to rock for a fraction of the cost of building your own.
