The “Aluminala’s” carefully planned design concept combines the classic long, low, wide styling of the stock original 58 Impala with all new mechanical equipment and drivetrain. To now perform like a fully modern sport coupe. The Aluminala design is highlighted by its extensive use of polished aluminum components to drastically reduce weight, while improving ride, handling, heat dissipation, and corrosion resistance.

A freshly rebuilt from top to bottom high performance V-8 motor, modern automatic transmission with overdrive, independent air bag suspension, rack and pinion power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, and much more showcase this incredible resto-mod.

Great effort was made to use factory original parts on the exterior and interior. Combined with the best high performance modern mechanical components available today. All the original components were painstakingly preserved, painted, plated, and/or polished. Over 345 stock interior and exterior parts, including bumpers and all trim were show chrome plated and/or polished at great expense.

In addition, when needed for performance or appearance enhancement, in excess of $60,000 of licensed “General Motors” OER (Original Equipment Reproduction) Parts from “Classic Industries”, “Ecklers”, “Summit Racing”, and other top suppliers were used during the restoration process. Plus, thousands of man hours were invested, with the goal of making this car the finest 58’s on the planet. Investment in the build far exceeds the current asking price. Read more to find out why. Detailed Description

Exterior Body and Paint

This 58 Impala’s curvaceous muscular body has been meticulously restored. The car always resided in a temperate climate. Retains all original factory body panels. Including the quarters, fenders, doors, roof, hood, trunk lid, and chassis.

The process began by removing all the exterior trim, bumpers, emblems, motor, exhaust manifolds, exhaust, grill, lights, hood, doors, trunk, spoiler, lower valances, carpet, headliner, and interior trim. Everything was completely removed and stripped down to bare metal. The body was fully separated from the chassis and put on a rotisserie. Then every trim part from the ground up was either meticulously restored or replaced.

The only minor body rust issue that needed addressing was the cabin and trunk floors. Which had a small amount of rust visible after media blasting that looked slightly “moth eaten”. NO major rust though and NO paste filler was used during the repair. Those sections affected were cut out and expertly replaced with correct factory style panels. Installed by a body man with over 50 years’ experience. Great attention was made to reduplicate the original factory body appearance.

The car was epoxy coated and all the original body panels and chassis were smoothed out and primed. The “Aluminala” theme continues with four coats of “DuPont” Black Onyx paint. Followed by six coats of “DuPont” Clear coat with a dusting of small aluminum flakes into the clear. Making the paint shimmer in the sunlight. The roof was painted with four coats of “DuPont” Cortez Silver aluminum colored paint and topped with 6 coats of clear coat., but no flakes The paint was wet sanded between all coats with increasingly fine grit. Then polished to perfection. Thousands of man hours were spent ensuring that everything was done to the highest standards. Each panel is smooth as glass with great gap alignment

***Exterior Trim

The 58 is a one year only model, making it rare and highly desirable. It also adorns hundreds of expensive interior and exterior trim parts. Making it extremely difficult and costly to restore to the high standard seen here. The build design called for retaining all the very expensive and hard to find stock interior and exterior trim parts. All original factory stainless trim, rocker panel cover molding, logos, drip moldings, window moldings, side spears, and pitch fork molding with factory correct black accent decals, and etcetera are in new or amazingly restored condition.

Examine the pictures closely to notice subtle custom changes added, like the trim molding extending from the rear of the roofs rain gutter. That extends back to the simulated rear roof exhaust vent. Too much to list, call for more info if interested in purchasing.

***All New Tinted Glass and weather-stripping

Front windshield was replaced with correct gradient tinted glass. All side and rear windows tinted with 35% gradient film. All new weather stripping and window felts added to the doors, windows, trunk, and hood, with all factory original retaining clips, screws, and brackets. Driver and passenger side window frames and all interior trim fully re-chromed or replaced. New windshield wiper blades, wiper motor, and arms. Doors, trunk, and hood slam shut with a solid thud. No window wobbles with smooth window operation.

***Interior

“Dynomat” sound and temperature underlayment was applied to the entire interior and roof areas. The black and aluminum theme carries into the mostly stock appearing black interior that retains ALL the hard to find and very expensive re-chromed trim pieces. All of the expensive and hard to find original trim parts, logos, and hundreds of chrome interior parts look amazing. All new mounts, nubs, trim, and screws. Original steering wheel fully restored. All interior controls, gauges, and switches look amazing and function properly. Even the factory style reproduction clock is new and holds perfect time.

The trunk mounted heavy duty dual batteries are hidden behind the driver’s side panel for better weight distribution. Chrome plated factory spare wheel and tire is located behind the passenger side access panel. The rear access panel encloses the suspension’s air bag system.

Drive Train

***Engine

1958 Impala’s were originally equipped with anemic 283 ci motors. The original engine was replaced with a 1967 327 ci block with casting #3782870. While maintaining a stock appearance. The block was thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and redesigned with new internal and external accessory parts replaced from top to bottom. Using the highest quality components. Marvelous Marv Bastow of “Marv’s Speed and Machine” of Casper Wyoming oversaw the engine’s build.
