Description

Early 1957 Nomad factory FI car. Solid lifter 283/283, California blackplate car.
This is one of 106 known factory fuel injected Nomads, estimated one of 18 known 283/283 solid lifter cars. It is well documented and featured in an early 70's book "Chevrolet: USA 1, and illustrated history of Chevrolet passenger cars".
I am the third registered owner. The first owner had it for less than a year and sold it to Nathan Waterson. Nathan was an Army lifer and had this car for 48 years. He loved the car and brought it from California to Florida in the 70's. I have been in touch with the family and they have told me great stories about the car. Like the time the standalone garage caught fire and Nathan ran in to drive the Nomad out leaving a Supercheif and split window vette to burn. His daughters grew up in the car and remember, how he would put the seats flat in the back and "floor it" going up hills so they could slide back to the tail gate.

It is a complete car, every piece of stainless, chrome, nut, bolt and bracket are here. It was a survivor car whenIstarted the restoration about 7 years ago.
The entire drivetrain and bodyare done. There was VERY little rust on this car. it was always stored in a garage and well cared for. I had the body blasted to bare metal, the only rust spotswere in thespare tire well and the two panels next to that. I had these repaired with new metal. The body was then put back on the completed chassis, sealedand flat sanded multiple times thenpainted back to the original Larkspur Blue with India Ivory top. I had the paint buffed, but left just the right amount of "orange peel" so it looks factory fresh. The drivetrain and chassiswere completely rebuilt while the body was off. All the date codes are within 3 months of the build date and so is considered numbers matching. It has the mechanical lifter 283 with a mid yearRochester FI, the Fuel Injection unit and special distributor were rebuilt by Jack Podell. The motor, trans and rear end were rebuilt by Hudson Performance. Everything in the drive train has been restored; engine, trans, rear-end, suspension, brakes, fuel system. The stainless and chrome are in good condition. I would say 80% of this can just be polished out. The bumpers and some of the smaller chrome from the rear cargo area will need replating, but there is no damage to any of it, it will just need to be stripped and replanted.
It is an original California Black Plate car. I have the original plates, even the original license plate shroud from City Chevrolet in San Diego where it was purchased. It haspower steering, electric wipers and thefamedWonderbar stereo. I am continuing the project, but will consider selling it now. As I get more done, I will relist it with the additional cost. If you want to take this project over and complete it yourself with some good money left on the bone, make me an offer. It is an awesome piece of history, with a great pedigree.
