Description

There just might not be a bigger bang for the buck anywhere in our inventory than this 1984 Chevrolet Corvette. Now you may already be saying to yourself that an '84 Corvette is nothing special, but take a closer look: there's a 383 cubic inch stroker motor under the hood, fully functional A/C, and a long list of upgrades that make this car more than a match for cars costing thousands more. There's a certain appeal to the first of the all-new C4 Corvettes. Imagine the impression of seeing this car for the first time after more than 15 years of the C3; it must have been revolutionary. And it's held up rather well, with clean lines that are unmistakably Corvette. The two-tone bronze finish was the poster car for much of Chevy's advertising around the new 'Vette and you have to admit that it still looks pretty good. Sure, it's obviously an '84, but it's cool the way your favorite old jeans are cool and nobody thinks of a guy driving an '84 'Vette as pretentious. It's in pretty darned nice shape, too, as if someone has always loved it and treated it as a special car. Gaps are good, which shouldn't be a surprise because the C4s were quite well built, and there's a uniform shine that extends to the bumper covers, which are usually the first things to start to show their age. This is one heck of a good-looking car!The C4's interior was cutting-edge tech in 1984, and this one shows it rather well. The brown leather upholstery actually conveys a high-end, luxurious look that is far from dated and actually looks pretty contemporary given the recent trend towards natural colors. The seats are in excellent condition with only very minor signs of use and the carpets have obviously been protected all their lives. Even the door panels look fresh, with their two-tone detailing and not so much as a dent where the driver might have rested his elbow. The digital gauges are perhaps the most "gee whiz" part of the design, and they remain bright and clear, conveying information with easy-to-understand displays. There's also a great-sounding Kenwood stereo system, functional A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a tilt wheel, so there's really no reason why you won't enjoy driving this Corvette. Even the hatch area doesn't show any UV damage and offers a good amount of storage for road trips. The original Crossfire injected 350 cubic inch V8 has been dumped in favor of a recent 383 cubic inch stroker motor that probably doubles the original engine's output. The injection is gone, replaced by a 4-barrel carburetor and a few well-chosen billet aluminum and chrome pieces really dress up the engine bay. An all-new serpentine belt drive system with new accessories from March gives it a big boost in the reliability department and the ignition is by MSD so it fires up easily even without the EFI. Long-tube headers feed a brand new dual exhaust system that sounds spectacular and the 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission was always the right choice in an early C4. The underside is shockingly clean, with nice floors and clean suspension components that strongly suggest this car has never spent a day in the snow and salt. And I, for one, love the early C4 aluminum wheels, which are aerodynamic and functional, with these wearing fat 225/50/16 BFGoodrich radials. You can still get a lot of performance for your money, and nowhere is that better illustrated than with this clean '84 Corvette.
