Description

You are looking at a 62 Chrysler Newport 4dr. It is powered by a 361 big block and a push button TQ-flight and 8 ¾ rear. When I got it, it had been off the road for 7 years, last running 3 years ago. We got it running very easily and after bleeding the brakes (which looked new), I was driving it around. We added the scallop paint job over the old, faded white paint. It was done with spray paint. Everyone who sees it thinks that scallop job was done 50 years ago. It has the right look. I added some baby moons and BRAND NEW Cooper tires. The rims look great but do have some rust and peeling if you look closely. The lake pipes are fake. The original exhaust system is intact and the car runs quiet. There is a little rust on the very bottom on the 1/4s. Some patches on the driver side front fender and in the trunk. Floors are ok. Frame is solid. Bumpers were painted silver because the chrome was dull. There is a tare in the front seat. After we got it running and driving, I would take it for rides to work the bugs out. First was a rumbling in the rear axles, so we put new axle bearings it in. Then it wouldn’t charge so I replaced the alternator & voltage reg. The gas gauge wouldn’t work and then it started running out of gas every 3 miles. We put a new pickup and sending unit in it and now the fuel system works good but……………… gas gauge still doesn’t work. It must be in the gauge. I think we've worked all the bugs out. Should easily handle a 50 mile drive home. Any farther, you might want to trailer it just to be safe. What this car needs now is to be driven. So, how does it drive? Very nice. It holds the road great for a 55 year old boat. It powers up the road and over the mountains here with ease. Transmission and teletype work fine. Drum brakes are ok but not fantastic (we’re all spoiled by disc brakes). Overall a good, driver quality classic with a cool, 60s sled look. I’ve fixed everything I thought it needed to be safe and reliable. Drive it home. Hagarty says this model is one of the top 10 cars for under $10K poised for growth in value. Dave 570-527-3450
