1968 Chrysler Newport Convertible 383 cid V8 Formal Black w/ White Bucket Seats
Description
This is a rare, seldom-seen Chrysler C-body classic... a 1968 Chrysler Newport Convertible. Only 2,847 Newport convertibles were built in 1968 which makes these cars extremely hard to find. This Newport is still in its original factory color combination of Formal Black body & Black Convertible top (BB1) with White Vinyl Sport Bucket Seats, Center Cushion & Folding Armrest as well as Black Dashboard, Black Steering Wheel & Black Interior Accents (E6W). Long sleek body lines (18 feet) and low profile (just under 5 feet) give this car a classy, sexy look.
This Newport has its original high torque 383 CID V8 and Chrysler's Torqueflight 727 3-Speed Automatic Transmission (one of the smoothest & trouble-free transmissions ever built according to Wheelsmagazine.) To enhance performance & roadability, this Newport's big V8 has been treated to some mild Edelbrock upgrades including a 4-barrel carburetor and a Performer383 Intake Manifold. Odometer shows 21,812, but actual mileage is unknown so this car is being sold mileage exempt as per the Connecticut title.
The paint is in very good condition and all the sheet metal is original with no signs of rust. All the chrome is sharp and shiny. The dashboard, steering wheel, seats, carpet, and all trim pieces are in excellent shape. It has it's factory original seat belts front and rear. Options include: Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Convertible Top and AM Radio. All components are in good working order.
The original factory wheel covers are in excellent condition. They are a great example of Space Agedesign featuring 92 simulated rotating vanes of a turbine that have a simulated center hub gear accented by a red reflector in the center inscribed with the Chrysler script logo. The tires are relatively new. They are the Sigma Shadow All Season Classic Radials in size P216/75R14 M+S with period correct late 1960s 3/4" whitewalls.
Overall, this Newport is in very, well-kept original condition. It still has its original factory broadcast sheet which details the original factory equipment and options that came on this car. (It's rare to find one intact and still with the car!)
Note: This seldom-seen Newport was recognized by the selection committee of the 2017 Greenwich Concours d'Elegance and invited to be displayed on the field representing late 1960s era C body Chryslers in the post War Chrysler circle at this invitation only prestigious classic car event!
