1985 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible- Turbo
Description
For sale is my 1985 Chrysler Lebaron. Not the real John Voight car, but close! This car has its goods and bads. Let's start with the bad as it's what everyone truly cares about. It runs good, not great. It will start up and run just fine, but as it’s being used, then turned off by the driver (as if parking at the store), it seems the naturally occurring heat from the engine causes it to start and idle rough. Once you get going, it works itself out then drives fine again. I’ve heard it could be a fuel vapor lock issue due to the heat. It is a fuel injected motor, but since it's an '85, car manufacturers were still experimenting with the transition from carburetor to EFI, so it isn't the most effective setup.
The turbo works, but if given too much throttle, the car will jolt suddenly. Perhaps an overboost condition, but I haven’t had it diagnosed. Gently easing into the throttle will still activate the turbo and you can really feel the car launch, the jolting issue only occurs when needing to quickly accelerate.
These would be the two largest issues I know of. The top is about 5 years old with plenty of life left. The paint and interior were redone at that time as well. Cosmetically, it’s wonderful, however, the wood grain vinyl is badly sun faded. Solid car, little/no rust. I purchased from Atlanta and have had it approximately 4 years. Front brakes/ rotors replaced about 1000 miles ago. New computer installed as well as new Interstate battery. Car has AC, but I removed the compressor because the AC did not work, as most vehicles from this time experience. The two front power windows work, the the two small side windows do not. I pull/push those by hand. Horn works intermittently. Good tires with plenty of life. Car comes with boot to cover the convertible top when in the open position. The transmission shifts into gear a little rough, but shifts just fine when driving.
I've given as much known and honest information that I can provide. I do own the vehicle and have a clear NC title. I kept it in the garage since I've owned it, but it has been outside the last few months as I no longer have the garage space for it. I'm only selling because I'm focusing more on home improvements vs. my car hobby. Please feel free to call/text with any questions. Buyer responsible for pickup/delivery. 704.918.3908
