Description

For sale is a "backyard find" 1974 260Z.
HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE
  • This 260Z was acquired from a family, whose head of the household was the second owner.
  • Before passing away, the owner had intentions to restore it by doing a complete tear down.
  • Prior to then, he drove the car up and down the roads of San Jose, CA and went everywhere with it until it was parked in 1986 in their rear storage.
  • According to his wife, the car ran excellent until it wasdecommissioned in 1986. Since then, the car has sat over the next three decades.
  • I picked this car up from her earlier this year, with hopes of restoring it for an all-original build to put beside my 240Z. Unfortunately, with the 240Z left unfinished, I cannot justify having another project car.
  • Hence, this car is for sale.

CURRENT STATE OF THE VEHICLE
  • Currently, the car is sitting on a set of aluminum slotted wheels so it can roll around inside my garage.
  • It also features an A/C, which I believe to be from the factory, and the sunroof, which I believe to be a dealer add-on.
  • Aside from that, the car seems to be completely stock with no absurd modificationon the drivetrain, as visible.
  • When I first got it, the rear wheels were completely frozen, so I carefully removed the drums to preserve the all aluminum cast of the original drums.
  • The odometer reads 19935, but I would think it has rolled over once, as the condition reflects more of 119,935 miles, which is just an average of 10,000 miles per year.
EXTERIOR
  • The body is in good condition, as the second owner was a bodyman and has left large sections of panels in primer.
  • The hood's paint has flaked off over the years, and has developed some light pitting, but there are no rust holes.
  • The fenders are quarters are in goodcondition.
  • The hatch is completely rusted out, and will need to be replaced.
  • The hatch surround has one rust area, along the lip of the seal, which can easily be repaired.
  • Aside from that, there are a few areas of paint bubbling along the windshield and sunroof.
  • The lower valance has beenreplaced with fiberglassair dam spoiler.
  • All light lenses are in good condition, showing no cracks.
  • The pieces of glass seem to be original. In fact, the hatch glass and the windshield glass have their NISSAN/datsun logo on them.
  • The drivers side glass won't go up, but it is inside the door. The passenger side window and the two quarter glasses are there as well, with no cracks.
CHASSIS
  • The rockers andframe rails are in very good condition, no rust damages at all. In fact, the frame rails show that the undercoating is just starting to peel.
  • The suspension seems to need some attention, although it has not suffered any damages from accidents.
  • Most likely, it will need new rubber bushings throughout the under of the car,but everything SEEMS to be completely stock and not modified.
INTERIOR
  • The carpet is removed on the two footwells to reflect the condition of the metal.
  • As visible, both the foot wells and the storage doors reflect their original paint.
  • As far as what I can see, most of the interior pieces are all there, with the exception of the carpet.
  • The spare tire housing shows some bubbling and may reflect pitting if it's media blasted, but there seems to be no rust hole.
  • Dash is cracked, and the door panels and seats have taken a beating from the sun over the years.
  • The steering wheel and horn button can use a cleaning but I did not find any major damage on them.
ELECTRICAL
  • So check this out. Just for the hell of it, while I was cleaning this car before I took pics of it, I installed my battery from my 240z.
  • I found that the wipers work, the blower motor, the headlight, hazards, marker lights, taillights, and radio.
  • I also tried cranking it over. There is clicking in the starter, but does not crank. I would guess that the starter would need to be replaced.
DRIVETRAIN
  • Right now, the spark plugs are in the engine, but the spark plug wires have been removed.
  • There is no battery.
  • Again, everything was supposedly running and working prior to the car sitting, so I wouldn't be surprised if the transmission and differential would just need some fresh gear oil to get them going.
  • Engine wise, I'm not really sure why the plugs are off but the family member whom I got the car from told me that the engine had some oil leaks.

Final notes:
  • The car doesn'thavethe California title, but I do have the last proof of registration inthe previous owner's name. I could do some paperwork on it to get the title, but it will cost $500 for me to get done. Hence, if you need a title, then an additional $500 will be needed to acquire it.
  • I am willing to ship it anywhere in the world, if you canarrange for a shipper. The car is located in Central Valley, California. For a fee, I can deliver it to anywhere else in Central Valley, SF Bay Area, or Sacramento. I might consider delivery to So Cal but that can get veryexpensive. Other interested buyers outside of these locations, please arrange for pick up at your cost.
