1984 Datsun-Nissan 300ZX Turbo
Description
Nissan 300ZX Turbo. You know the car, but do you know what it's like to drive one?
This is the 1984 model year. First year of the 300ZX and the first year Nissan used the Iron Block, Aluminum head V6 over the Straight 6 from its 280zx predecessor. Featured a very distinctive hood scoop. They were identified with the "DATSUN" and "NISSAN TURBO" badges as Datsun was re-branded Nissan worldwide.
Look around and what do you see? 84-89 Non-Turbos. I rarely see any 84 Turbos, and that's no surprise considering there were only 16,314 Turbo models and 5,148 50th Anniversary Editions produced in 1984. With many of them crushed or salvaged, their numbers are dwindling rapidly. This is an all original 84 Turbo.
The car currently has 131,825 miles on it. That's very low for a 32 year old car. These engines are known to last up to 450,000 miles. They are extremely tough and reliable and I have never had a major problem with them.
This was a well-maintained, family owned car that I bought in March 2016. The car was garaged which help reduce weathering from the elements. I had the timing belt and all related components done at approximately 129,000 miles. The alternator was rebuilt, fuel filter replaced, transmission fluid replaced with factory specified API GL-4 80w-90 gear oil, upper front, upper rear, and lower radiator hoses were replaced and cooling system flush was performed and refilled with the appropriate ethylene glycol antifreeze, exhaust has a leak after the CAT so it's a bit loud on startup.
The five-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all gears with no problems. The engine delivers smooth, effortless power through all RPM making this car a real pleasure to drive. This car is fast for a stock Turbo Z. It blows away most modern cars. You'll get more looks in this car than you will with a modern premium sports or muscle car.
All of the lights work, defroster works, voice warning system works A.K.A "Bitchin Betty" (she warns you when you're low on fuel/lights are on etc.), power windows work, A/C works but will need vacuum lines, radio works but could use new speakers, digital dash works but the fuel gauge works intermittently (common problem that can be fixed).
Body is straight and the paint is still shiny. There may be some imperfections here and there from use but otherwise it's in very good condition. Pinstriping and Turbo decals are in-tact and not faded.
The car is equipped with a 9" K&N cone filter which is washable. I still have the original stock air box components which will come with the car.
This car would make a very nice summer car or weekend cruiser. It's not showroom quality, but it would still be perfectly fine to take to an antique car show. It would also make a great base car for a special build, but I would leave it the way it is. Either way, you'll be getting a really nice car. Why drive a Porsche or Ferrari when you can get a 300ZX TURBO and be that much cooler for a fraction of the cost?
