Description

I bought this car in June 2014. When I bought this DeSoto it was located about 800 miles from where I live, here in Philadelphia. Triple "AAA" wanted so much money to flatbed it to my home, I said I will call them back. Then the owner looked at me and, and said Tom why don't you just drive it home, its like a new car. I thought for a moment then said it wasn't how nice the car looked, my concerns were for safety, such as the brakes, o-rings,wheel cylinders, etc. He looked at me and went through some papers then showed me a receipt for all new ( 8 ) 2 per wheel /wheel cylinders, and the master cylinder. I felt safe already. Well I came up with the answer, Why Not? It turned out to be one of the most adventurous things I had ever done in my life. An old car, no idea where I was, and knew I had about 800 miles to get me and the car home. Well the car made it home without incident, great on gas, and it drove like a new car all the way. It rained on the way home, I thought here we go, but the wipers worked great too and could I could not hear them working at all. The heater was also great, at night coming home, no noise from either blower motors, heat and defroster. Before I forget I am a person who has to see it to know what I have and not onlygo by hearsay, I need to see for myself.I pulled a wheel off the car to look at the brakes. Not that I didn'tbelievehim, I simply wanted to see what type of work was done on the wheels. I do know I expectedto see stamped on the wheel cylinders, (made in Mexico) but to my surprise I actually saw a Mo-parpart # stamped on them with their Chrysler logo DD on them. The wheel cylinders were dry as a bone, no leaks and they hardly had any brake dust whatsoever on all the parts. Since I have owned the car, I did some preventive maintenancework on it and kept it clean. A lot of paper work comes with this car along with two manuals. The radio and clock are new, plus the paper work for them. I found a radio on the internet brand new and where it was shipped from by the Chrysler corp. in the box both the head and the speaker chassis with all the hardware still in the sealed package. I have pictures, the box and all the paper work that came in the box and installationinstructionsfrom the parts dept. in "1953". The radio parts glisten in the light. The upholstery is all original it looks like something out of a time machine. I had it checked out, along with that the front rubber mat which is correct and the back carpets are also correct I think its horse hair. The dark green was painted over, but it was done the right way, everything was taken off the car to do it right. It is done in a base coat clear coat system, so this paint is going to stay very shinny for a long time to come as seen in photos. The roof is in the original light green. The front and back bumpers along with 4 bumper guards have been re-chromed, and a great job on them, its a #10 for sure. The 4 tires and the spare in the trunk are "Goodyear" tires, they stay white. I recently did the following, front and rear universal joints, two rear shocks, and a newer canister type oil filter, simply drop in the new filter into the basket and put the lid on it. Also,a tune up and oil change with filter. I found two new left and right outside rear view mirrors for the car. The headlights still have the original bullet lights on the car. They alone bring in a hefty price tag. Last month the car just turned to 20,865 miles on it for me that's all it has and itdrives and feels like it should for that amount of mileage. There is a tissue dispenser in the car with the original box of tissues. The box needed some scotch tape because of its age. The trunk mat is in excellent shape with the original jack assembly, light gray. Exhaust system was installed just before I bought the car and the seams are welded, very clean and solid job. I located an original set of ( four stainless steel window shades for the outside just over the door glass, perfect condition with the part number stamped on them along with the model # S-18, see them in the photographs. The Bakeliteparts such as the steering wheel, gearshift knob, and turn signal knob does not have one single hairlinecrack in them, normallyyou will see cracks up to 1/8 inch wide and black in all the cracks again, out of a time machine. I personallyhave never seen a steering wheel in this condition before this one. I have to mention this, the person I bought this car from always kept it inside with its car cover on it, the cover stays with the car. When I tuned the car up I also put in a new set of spark plug wires on it. I know there is much more I am forgetting that I have done to this car, but it shows it, no matter how small, that's what gives a car a very detailed look. This car isone of a kind, you can look at the weather stripping on all 4 doors, they are as flexible and resilientas the day they were made, no rust anywhere under the rubber weather striping. If you want to buy a car and just start driving it without havingto do anything to it, you just found it. This car is ready to go anywhere you want to go, cross country.Once I sell this car, I'm no longer responsible for anything relatingto the car after the purchase, sell as is no guarantees, its a done deal this is my own personal car and I am not a dealer in any way involvedin selling cars. This I will say whereever you go in this car, you will be the main topic. Also there is a lot of papers that goes with the car, like maintenancework by the owner before me, new parts, etc. and of course the two manuals pertainingto the DeSoto, S-18, and other models. Its also nice to know that,no one has ever smokeda cigarette in this car.Once again the person I bought the car from told me the car had no dents or cancer, it was painted because of all the shrubberybushes that brushedagainstboth sides of the car when his wife usedit to go shopping on the weekends, it was her car. Who ever buys this car, they bought a winner....
