1953 DeSoto Firedome

Description

You don't see many of these that haven't been robbed of their grills and Hemi's. This car has solid floors and trunk. The underside is in good shape with only surface rust and some scaling. The leaf spring perches are in great shape also. The interior is original with only GM seat belts added at some point. The driver's seat has tears in the base but the back and rear seat are in decent shape. The original carpet is covered by a cheap piece of carpet. It has 2 spots of rust through pictured and a hole under the battery tray. As with most of these, the pot metal chrome has pitting. The "S" is missing from the hood. The turn signal surrounds have been removed but come with the car. All the stainless is in good shape but missing the rear window molding on the passenger side as pictured. All glass is good and windows roll up and down as they should. The passenger rear vent window is broken at the upper post as pictured. This car is equipped with the 276 DeSoto Hemi. The motor turns easily by hand. I removed the valve covers to inspect and there was NO sludge and the heads were very clean. I have cleaned the spark plugs tubes and put in new spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. I painted the vavle covers and the oil bath air cleaner as pictured. The carburetor was removed. I was going to have it rebuilt so it comes with the car is in great rebuild able shape. I also added a new ignition key because I was given the wrong key at purchase. I'm unsure of the condition of the transmission but it is the original semi automatic. The parking break works but I'm sure the brakes themselves will need attention. Overall this is a very solid, fairly untouched original car. It would make a great cruiser, restoration, or build to your liking. From the color in the door jambs it has been painted at least once. The car has cool patina and would definitely stand out as is as a driver quality car. I have a clear South Carolina title and the original owners manual along with other documents from the 2 previous owners.
