Up for auction is this ultra rare car, 1 of 307 produced in 1935! Our 1935 Desoto Airflow SG coupe is 95+% original and complete, and as such, an excellent restoration project.
If you've been looking for an Airflow coupe you know how rare these are and may also know that restored examples have been fetching high five digits when they do come up for sale.
The Chrysler (8 cyl) and Desoto (6 cyl) Airflow cars were truly revolutionary groundbreaking cars and introduced many major technical advancements in automotive design, including being the first car designed in a wind tunnel to improve drag and speed without adding horsepower, moving the engine over the front axle so in turn both of the passenger seats would ride 'between the wheels' for a smoother ride, and perhaps the most significant; this was the world's first 'uni-body' design, you passengers rode 'inside the frame' which greatly improved survival in case of a crash....all features common to automobiles ever since!
This Airflow 1935 SG Coupe has some minor rust in the usual places; rear truck area, edges of lower fenders, but overall it is a 95% complete and solid car with it's original drive train in tact (engine turns, never tried to start). Our seller told us it was driven on and off the trailer when he picked it up in Arizona many years ago. The seller was a well known Mopar collector and operated the largest Mopar salvage lot on the West Coast of America and was active in the Airflow Club of America. He had intended to restore this ultra rare coupe but Father Time caught up with him first. We had also to restore her but we have just too many projects already started and so we decided to let her go in order to help finish several other projects. Our loss can be you gain!
It is the way you like to see them, still in original condition...and most importantly, it has it's legendary waterfall original grill and mascot in tact with just minor pitting and no 'broken bones'....so will restore to show quality no problem. The only obvious missing item is the rear bumper, and we may have a lead on one of those (same for all 1935 Desotos).
This airflow coupe has the rare optional window washing system and the original jar is in tact. Also has original under dash heater still intact as well. We may have additional parts stored separately that are not shown in pictures, please ask if you see something missing before bidding, otherwise what you see is what you get!
The Airflow Club of America is an excellent club for supporting your restoration and has re manufactured many of the rare items needed for restoration.
Free delivery within the SoCal area, or we can help to arrange transportation for you.
Note, we will also be listing a 1936 Desoto S2 sedan, in similar very restore-able condition in a separate auction.
Please see attached photos for details, and ask us if you'd like to see more. The car is available for inspection at our Woodland Hills shop during normal business hours, appointments on weekend possible. Thanks for looking, Penta Motorsports. (and please check out our website)
