Description

I bought this from the original owner in 1976. He had ordered it with V8 Hemi, overdrive, tinted windows, but NO radio, heater, or power equipment. I have all receipts, manuals, and paperwork since 1976. It has always lived in Santa Barbara, CA. Featured in Nov 2006 WPC Club magazine.
I drove it regularly until it underwent a complete refurbishment in 2006 which included paint (original color scheme), chrome (show quality bumpers/guards), NOS stainless trim, installation of a rebuilt 1955 270 cu. in. HEMI Power Pak 4bbl engine (193 bhp compared to 150 bhp of the original 241). I wanted the ultimate version of the 1949-1954 Suburbans built by Dodge/Plymouth. The Hemi V8 with overdrive was my dream and it has certainly lived up to my expectations, in performance, handling, utility/functionality.
Among the work that has been done:
- rebuilt front end and steering- new coil and leaf springs- recored radiator- rebuilt 3.9:1 rear end installed for slightly higher gearing. Still have the original 4.1:1.- newly mfd. driveshaft with standard type u-jts instead of the rubber-bellows Detroit u-jts. Still have original.- 6V alternator. Still have generator.- pcv system replaces road draft crankcase vent.- stainless exhaust system- Michelin wsw radial tires- replaced original windshield/rubber- rechromed 1953 ram hood mascot- auxiliary electric fuel pump- Optima battery- halogen light bulbs (from Bill Hirsch
I have collected manyspare parts and many radios and a heater system taken from a `54 Suburban which I intended to install but never got around to it.
Weak points:
- cloth headliner has some black spots that bled through from the POR-15 and R-bloc that I put on the inside roof for rustproofing and sound deadening purposes. Should be replaced with a vinyl headliner. Floors under carpets have R-bloc also.
