1970 Dodge Challenger 440 V8
Description
For bid is a 1970 Challenger, plum crazy purple project car. This car was purchased on Ebay in 2010 and due to insufficient funds, I am looking to sell it. Please read the original sellers description: "The car has a clear title, fender tag and dash VIN plate are still on car. The mileage stands at 27814, but I am sure you can tack on another 100k. The car was built in an LA plant in late 1969 and appears to have spent a large part of its life in the dry Texas climate. This is a non-numbers matching car. It was originally equipped with a 383 V*, but currently has a 440 V8 that has been rebuilt. I believe the current 727 torque flite transmission is original. The A/C components of the car are missing. The body of the car is very solid; the only problem spots are the area below the glass, rear passenger side floor pan, trunk floor pan, and a small spot behind the drivers side door chrome. -The car originally had a black vinyl top which has been removed. The roof was sanded down and coated with primer. The body panels and doors are solid, and the drivers fender has been replaced. The original fender had some body filler in it which appeared to be from a minor fender bender.-The 440 engine was rebuilt in 2004/2005. It was bored .030 overand had a new cam, pistons, crank, and other goodies installed. The new cam installed was a Comp Cam Part#21-228-4 Serial # UG6011. This is a fairly aggressive cam, but is street able. When the engine wasdynode, it produces 448 hp and 520 ft/lbs of torque on the flywheel. The engine has beenpickled and turned on a regular basis. It does not currently have a carburetor, but from what I recall, thealuminum Performer RPM high rise intake was designed for a Performer Series 750 CFM.--The transmission could probably use a rebuild as it is stock and is not set up for a 440. The car does have a brand new torque converter that is rated for the power threshold. The interior needs attention: Seats, dash, and headliner need to be replaces. I do have a new headliner already .The passenger door was partially disassembled, but the panel, handle and glass are all there. The locking mechanism linkage is missing and needs replaced. -The windshield is cracked, there is a new on with the auction. All other glass is present. -The car has a restored grille and bezel set. There is also a nice set of taillight lenses and bezels. Otherextra parts: 2 other headlights, the under dash a/c duct work, and other parts"
Since my dad and I purchased it, we didn't do to much to it. We have kept it in a garage and cranked the engine regularly. As pictures show, he have added a lot of items to it to assist the project andwe have gutted a lot out of the car. All of these items will be included in the sale, but we have purchased a Chilton 1971 Auto repair manual, a 1970 Dodge service manual, an alternator, fuel pump, fuel line, new battery terminals, had the radiator flushed and pressure tested (passed), gaskets, alternator bracket, rear valance brackets, chrome air cleaner, gas tank, gas level, tank straps, muffler covers, dash overlay cover w/ A/C, water pump pulley, chromenon remote mirror, window molding, ignition coil, weather stripping for both doors, fuel fill grommet, Mopar oil caps, passenger floor pan, dome light, small rear windowand many other things.
As I said, my dad and I are at a point where we need to get rid of the car since we don't see any chance it getting it back on the road. We purchased the car for $7,316 and have put in about $2,000 into the parts. The auction will include all items we have pertaining to the challenger.
The auction will end Sunday; we are located about 80 minutes east of Carlisle. If you want to come see the car over the course of the car show, please let me know and I am sure we can work something out. I do not have a trailer so I can not get the car up to Carlisle.
Buyer is responsible to pick up the car or to have it transported. When we purchased the car, we had it transported from Indiana via car carrier.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
