LOOK! 1967 Dodge Polara 500 with Original '67 440 Engine & 727 Auto Trans RARE!
Description
What can I say...If you're already a MoPar person who digs C-Body cars, then you already know what a beauty and a rarity this one is in good condition: A '67 Dodge Polara 500 with original 440 cubic inch engine and Factory Air Conditioning. If you're new to the hobby, you might notice that these full bodied, big block cars are getting a little more attention and respect these days, especially with the traditional muscle cars becoming price prohibitive for many of us. Some of the extra charm that comes with the C-Body cars though, is the comfortable ride and the passenger & trunk space to spare. The 500 option on this car offered bucket seats, a sexy center console, and special badges & trim, wrapped up in a comfortable, powerful, two door hardtop, with a special roof line that was known as a "Fastop." It wasn't quite a fastback, and not a typical notch type roof line. It was something in between, and looked great.
I'm selling this car because I've proved to myself that there can be too much of a good thing: I have 6 other running cars that I maintain on my property, and it's just getting to be too much for me. I keep the Polara under a roof towards the back of my driveway, and it's usually blocked in by the daily drivers, so I rarely get a chance to drive it. I did a lot of work on it, and I would rather move it along than look at it sitting there, ready to go every day, and not be able to use it much.
The Good stuff:
-Original 440 engine runs great, and has recent tune-up
-Oil pressure, Water Temp, and Voltmeter gauges added to dash to keep an eye on things
-Original 727 transmission sent out to Jasper for rebuild less than 50 miles ago. Shifts and downshifts as it should. Valve body upgraded to later type with neutral safety switch that incorporates back-up lamp switch. Back-up lamps rewired accordingly
-Original 26" Radiator re-cored less than 50 miles ago. Installed new thermostat at same time, as well as a new fan clutch, and new radiator hoses.
-Carburetor Professionally rebuilt less than 5 miles ago
-Installed new muffler and tailpipe less than 5 miles ago
-Less than 50 miles on new starter
-Upgraded electrical system with '70 & later alternator with electronic voltage regulator. Installed battery cut-off switch.
-Front and rear suspension in good condition and front suspension sports a factory sway bar
-Body straight & underside very clean. Doors, hood and trunk open and shut smoothly. All windows roll up and down without effort. Vent windows operate properly by their crank mechanisms.
-Lights and instrumentation fully functioning
-Some convenience features on this car include power steering, power brakes, factory A/C, chrome left and right side view mirrors, 2 speed rear defog fan, 3 speed windshield wipers, dash map/courtesy light, fender mounted turn signals, center console lights, glove box lamp, trunk compartment lamp and a cool 1967 feature that allowed flow-through ventilation that changed the air in the passenger compartment four times a minute! The ventilation is controlled by a switch on the dash, and allows air to flow out of vacuum operated flaps to the vent behind the rear window.
In Need of Mentioning
-The paint on this car is very thin, and there are a few spots on the passenger, rear side that appear to be down to primer, and a spot on the driver side by the rear window, as well. Although generally a very straight car, it does need some light bodywork in a couple spots. I have not painted the car, because I couldn't decide whether to paint it the original color (which people seem to either love or hate), or to paint it black. Now that I'm selling it, I'll leave that up to you.
-I keep the car under a roof, because the front and rear glass both leak, and need to be re-sealed. I pulled the carpeting out to inspect the floor, and it's in good shape. In fact, the original copper paint is present on most of it. The carpet has since been re-installed, but the trunk mat is missing, and you can readily see that the trunk floor is in good shape if you'd like me to take additional photos of this for you. The only things in the trunk right now are the spare tire and the original jacking equipment. The windshield is scratched on the passenger side from the wiper blade. I was planning on replacing the windshield and replacing the windshield & rear window seals at that time...but you know.
-Air conditioning isn't currently working. All the components are there, and the compressor will kick on and run, but no cold air. I haven't looked into this yet either. It may have a small leak somewhere. Once again, I was getting to that.
-Original interior in great shape for age, but seat upholstery stitching is starting to come apart in areas. The seats are still very comfortable and don't look too bad yet, but plan on having to re-upholster at some point.
If you are a serious bidder, and would like additional photos or any other info., please feel free to contact me.
The car is being sold as is, where is, but I drove it home from 4 hours away when I bought it a few years back, and I've only improved on it since then, so I wouldn't be afraid to drive it home. I will also cooperate however I can to help you load it on a truck if you need to send someone for it. I will sell to Canada, Mexico & Europe, but buyer must arrange for pick up at my location, and take care of any customs paperwork that may be required.
Thank you for looking! Good Luck!
