Description
The legend of the 1979 Dodge D150 Lil' Red Express is a true outlaw. It brought extra power to the streets by being a muscle car in a pickup package. Today that legacy is celebrated with a restored example that has all the best original details, and even more power from its enhanced V8. This is one of the boldest factory packages to ever hit the streets. Dodge was building a pickup for muscle car fans, and so they wanted it to have some flair. It starts with Bright Canyon Red paint and full gold tape stripe package. All that gold also looked good against all the wood bolted to the side of the bed. Bright chrome bumpers, a bright chrome grille, and a set of Cragar racing wheels make this look like a true American classic. But of course, the piece of bright work we all love the most are the vertical exhaust stacks. It lets you know this truck was made for hauling asphalt. It all looks so good today because of a solid investment in a restoration, and we understand exactly why. The Lil' Red Express was basically exploiting a loophole, which meant it was only offered for a two years total. 1979 was the final year, and they produced around 5,120 examples. So this pickup is both bold and rare. Inside, black always looks great against red muscle cars, and so it has just as much appeal in a truck. Plus, the split bench has a fold-down armrest that gives you and your passenger bucket seat-style comfort. You'll slip behind the classic Mopar "Tuff" three-spoke sports steering wheel (a feature not found in all '79s.) Beyond that is the classic driver-oriented dash with all the essential controls at your fingertips - including an upgraded AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo. We know you'll want to be driving with the windows down all the time to listen to those vertical stacks. But just in case you need a little extra breeze, this truck comes with provisions for air conditioning. The date codes on the V8 even point to all signs of an original motor. But what you're really going to love is the performance investment in the engine. The 360 V8 was restored by Keith Black Racing with a bored .30 over kit, including new rings, rods, and main bearings. Plus, this one is topped with a new Carter four-barrel carburetor and finishes with Hooker headers for that extra kick of performance. And yes, those vertical exhaust stacks really do give this a unique high-rise, high-performance soundtrack. More than just a mean V8, the whole presentation looks great. As you look at the undercarriage photos, you'll notice it's even quite bold and tidy, too.
