Description

The Dodge styling department must have been working over time in the late 30s. 1939 was a special year for them as it was Dodges 25th anniversary as a manufacturer, so of-course it demanded a new look in celebration. However, 1940 brought another completely new design, this one, which was then changed again for '41! Whew! Take the unique look of this '40 model, enhance it with some modern paint and running gear, and you have the sweet looking car you see here. Check it out. This is a big car with big attitude. Presented in a Teal and Silver two-tone, it really helps the car look long and low. You can see the wedge built into the chassis in the way the car sits giving it a bit of an aggressive look. Up front that gorgeous chrome grill leads the way with its horizontal lines, trailing up and over the center of the hood which is graced by an awesome hood ornament, and dipping down toward the front bumper which echoes the dip as it underlines the whole front end. The headlights are trimmed in fancy chrome and more chrome dresses out the vents on the edge of the hood. Bulging fenders front and rear have body colored accent lines and suicide doors are always a cool feature. The roofline runs almost all the way to the back of the car before bending down toward the rear bumper which creates a huge trunk that you can almost stand up in. Open the door and you will find a sharp looking custom Gray interior. It starts with trick door panels that have geometric patterns pressed into them in contrast to the flowing lines of the body. High backed bucket seats with fold down armrests are upholstered in gray cloth and are very comfortable. A three-spoke, leather wrapped steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column with the shifter for the automatic transmission. Behind it is an updated dash full of white faced VDO gauges with the speedometer in the center flanked by oil pressure and water temp on the left, and fuel and volt gauges on the right. The center of the dash is vintage chrome with a few modern features mounted under it like cruise control, a B&M speed adjustment controller, and a modern A/C system to keep you cool on those hot summer days. There is also a Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette player mounted in the glove box for your listening pleasure. Raise the hood which is hinged in the center, and you will find a 350 cubic inch V8 crate motor nestled snuggly down in a neat and clean engine bay. It is topped by a chrome Edelbrock air filter which feeds air to a Weber 4-barrel carburetor, then through an Edelbrock intake manifold and out through a dual exhaust system. The A/C compressor and 12-volt alternator are mounted up top and a power steering pump sits down low on the side while an aluminum radiator with an electric fan keeps things running cool. Power flows back through a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission to a 10 bolt Nova rear end with 3.55 gears mounted on leaf springs. Up front, a Nova subframe mounts a control arm front suspension with coil springs and a sway bar to help the car handle nicely and front disc brakes provide for good stopping power. The rubber meets the road through 215/70R15s out back and 195/60R15s up front all mounted on 5-spoke polished alloy wheels. The Dodge styling department created this beautiful design for us in 1940. Updating it with modern comfort and convenience features makes a comfortable custom cruiser. Come on down and check it out. You may decide that its just the car you have been looking for.
