The little Dodge Swinger 340's proved to be very popular to the economy minded performance set and while devoid of conventional creature comforts it remains to this day on eo the high points of the 60's super car era. 1969 also witnessed the introduction of the famous Six-Pac option on the 340 and 440 cid V-8s. Three Holley two barrel carburettors mounted on a Edlebrock aluminum intake manifold provide a 15 hp boost in power.

Whereas the Dodge Dart GT first appeared in 1965 the high-performance GTS model appeared in 1966. It was set off from other Darts with a power blulge hood and GTS identification on the hood, front fenders and trunk. Bumblebee stripes were optional. The GTS was available as a two-door hardtop or convertible.

Since the GTS was the top of the line Dart it came with an upgraded interior trim and standard bucket seats standard on the hardtop and an option with the convertible. The standard engine was the 340 ci small block V-8 with the three speed Torque Flight automatic transmission. The Dodge Dart GSS was a 440-ci powered Dart. Only a small number were built by Mr. Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago, Illinois.

The 1969 Dart GTS shared the same body style as the previous year but received a new grill and headlight and taillight panel. The hood had side facing simulated scoops which indicated engine size. The GTS's bumblebee stripe was changed to a different single band design.

The engine choice expanded with the availability of the 375 horsepower 440 ci V-8 during the later part of the model year and was indicated by the engine code M as the fifth symbol in the serial number. The exact number of M-Code 440's produced is unknown but Chrysler historian Galen Grovier states that 30 are known to exist.

This particular Dart GTS happens to have escaped the ravages of having been a weekend warrior or dedicated Drag Car. It has never been chopped or cut up and retains all its original factory sheet metal. It also retains its born with numbers matching engine. It has two factory original build sheets one of which is complete and the other only partial. It also has the original factory window sticker which documents the 3.55 Sure Grip Rear, radio delete, wood wheel, bright trim and white wall tires.

No MOPAR collection is complete without one of these extremely rare M-Code 440 Darts GTS's and this is well restored example is certainly one of the finest available.
