Description

Talk about a lot of truck for not a lot of money! Someone clearly spent a great deal of effort making this 1984 Dodge D150 Prospector into a very appealing truck, from the glossy black paint to the great running V8 under the hood. We don't sell nearly as many of these as we do Chevys, but after a quick drive and a glance at the sticker price, maybe this is an opportunity in disguise. Most of... these trucks ended up working for a living, but judging from the looks of this one, it was never a tradesman's work vehicle or someone's beater. Instead, it's a very clean, solid truck with a lot of nice upgrades that make it ideal for local shows and cruise nights. You can still see there's plenty of time and effort wrapped up in getting this one straight. Black is unforgiving like that, but nothing looks better than those fat rear fenders with a modern wheel/tire combo stuffed underneath. Between those fenders, you'll find a fully functional bed that shows very little useage, so it's still ready, willing, and able to work for a living. All the original stainless trim has been removed or body-matched, as does the front bumper and grille, and particularly the Ram's head hood ornament to give a modern, sinister, and high-end look. Inside, a factory-style gray fabric interior has been stitched to cover up the truck's working class bones. The original bench seat feels firm and all-day comfortable, and newer carpets replace original rubber mats to take it up a few notches and help control NVH inside. Door panels were tidied up with new lower kick panels with built-in speakers, and the dash pad is quite nice. For entertainment, there's an AM/FM/CD stereo in the dash feeding those new speakers, and the gauges look bright and crisp. Finally, the tilt steering column is topped by a sporty 4-spoke steering wheel with a big wrap in it that makes it feel beefy. It also includes factory A/C. Under the hood, you'll find a 318 cubic inch V8 that was well maintained and appearance enhanced with a color-matching Edelbrock air cleaner and valve covers. More recently, it's been treated to a new distributor, coil, timing chain, and water pump, and it idles and pulls like there's a mild performance cam inside. It would be a mistake to dismiss this 318 as a stock, wheezing 1984 V8; no, it moves the relatively lightweight truck with real authority. You'll also notice that there's a newer A/C compressor, power steering and brakes, and lots of new componentry under the hood. Behind the engine is a 3-speed automatic that is part of a tidy undercarriage, and drives the stock rear end with reasonable highway gears inside. The suspension gives the truck just the right stance, and it rides on MOPAR wheels painted a radical shade of orange with black inserts which match the grill insert. Look at the details throughout this truck, and then take another look at the price tag. As we said, this is a lot of truck for the money, and you would be hard-pressed to find another one this clean. With great features like A/C and that inviting interior, it's a truck you can comfortably drive cross-country, and the timeless shape will always be popular.
