When this 1970 Charger R/T (XS29) was ordered new in South Carolina in late 1969, it was ordered with all the correct boxes checked.High impact Plum Crazy paint, 440 RB engine, Hemi 18 spline 4 speed, Dana 60 rear differential, tick tock tach, HD cooling package, 15” rally wheels, power disk brakes & power steering. It didn’t get more muscular & better looking coming out of the St. Louis assembly plant in late 1969!
Up for auction is my 1970 Charger R/T that’s restored in its High Impact factory FC7 plum crazy paint. I am not a dealer or your regular classic car flipper, just an enthusiast that enjoys bringing 1970 Chargers back to their original glory as a hobby in my home garage. Every year I restore or bettera car, enjoy it and then move on to the next Charger project. This car includes its original (patina'ed) and reproduction fender tag, pictures and receipts from its restoration and houses its original 1970 engine and transmission.2 build sheets were discovered but neither matched the VIN of this R/T. When the car left South Carolina 20+ years ago it went thru several hands prior to being restored.
Thefactory F440HP2 block houses a balanced factory steel crankshaft, factory 440+6 connecting rods, JE 9.5:1 forged pistons with Total Seal piston rings.A Comp-Cam camshaft opens the valves in the factory 906 cylinder heads thru an adjustable roller rocker valve train.Everything was replaced or restored when the drivetrain was recently gone-thru like the water pump, Carter fuel pump, Comp double roller timing chain, Melling oil pump, belts, hoses, clamps, battery cables, wiring harness, starter, alternator, etc…The F440HP2 was topped off with an Edelbrock CH4B era correct intake manifold and carburetor.(Original intake manifold is available)
Allthe HP is being managed thru the factory matching # Hemi 18-spline 4 speed transmission that was reunited with the car during its restoration (from one of the prior owners), pistol grip console shifter, factory steel flywheel, a Centerforce dual friction clutch and a 3:54 Dana 60 differential which results in a very driver friendly street cruiser. It sounds terrific thru its 1970 dated HP exhaust manifolds that were Jet Hot coated and TTI 3” mandrel bent exhaust system. A 3.54 Dana 60 differential replaced the original 4.10 Dana 60 and currently resides under a Hemi Road Runner in Ohio.
This R/T sports brand new Good Year Polyglas F60-15 tires, houses a tight steering and suspension system and has annew master cylinder, new calipers and brakes. This car drives down the road straight, handles the corners well and feels like a brand new car of 1970.
The finish on this Charger is courtesy ofSherwin Williamsand was completely restored 16 years ago even though it looks fresh. All factory VIN # stampings reside on the radiator support and trunk gutter as expected. At that time the trunk floor, rear valance and torsion bar support were replaced with factory pieces from a donor Charger body.Following media blasting, the quarters received lower patch panels where necessary but the factory quarter panels and wheel houses were retained to ensure proper alignment and body lines.
At that time all the chrome was re-plated, stainless was professionally polished, glass was restored, wiring harnesses were replacedand so-on as part of a total restoration.A majority of it's hardware was recently re-plated in phosphate, zinc or cadmium to ensure a show quality finish. This 70 Charger R/T is laser straight, has no bumps, bruises, body work bubblesor poor panel alignment: It resembles a fresh restoration. The windshield is a replacement piece of glass.
While the car was sent out for body and paint, parts were distributed to various vendors for restoration like the Bendix Brake Booster (Dewey), 3 speed wiper motor (Topher), AM radio (Wards), Heater box & Steering Column.Bill Evans supplied the replacement wiring harnesses and the original grille shell was carefully restored using factory finishes.
The interior was restored courtesy of Legendary Interiors. The vinyl top, head liner, carpet (ASC), Charcoal seat covers, door panels, window cranks, sill plates, shifter boots, seat belts (BE&A) and arm rests were all replaced.Firewall, kick panel, under dash and under carpet insulation, body plugs and door bumpers were all replaced courtesy of REM, The factory dash pad, center console, upper door pads, sun visors and dash are in great original condition. The gauge cluster was restored and reset to 0 miles during restoration, previously read 67K miles and now reads 5500. Gauges operate as expected but occasionally the tach flickers when driving.Lastly, the woodgrain steering wheel is in fantastic condition showing no cracks and very little wear. The trunk houses areproduction REMtrunk mat, restored original Charger jack, base and lug wrench w/ a 15” spare.
Following assembly and recent final wet sand and polish, all of the factory stickers were replaced like the jack instructions, tire pressure, antifreeze, emissions, headlight door & ECS door VIN sticker (not yet installed in pics).Reproduction brake and fuel lines, clips & proportioning valve were supplied by Inline Tube. The gas tank and sending unit were supplied by Spectra during restoration and the gas gauge works as expected. Mileage reads 5500 miles and Factory inspection marks were reproduced as the final stage of this restoration on the front suspension and rear Dana 60.
