1936 1937 Dodge D2 Coupe Barn Find Mopar Plymouth Chrysler Super Body Original
Description
Up for SALE is a very solid, mostly all original30+ yearBarn Find 1936 Dodge D2 Coupe. This car was originally black and painted its current color who knows when - 1950's?? Clear title in my name.
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION
Here's what has been done to the car over the last 4 years since I have owned it:
Original engine was stuck - replaced engine with a good running one from another '36 Dodge car I owned - added a new water pump to replacement engine. Original transmission completely rebuilt due to moisture in gearbox badly pitting most gears with all NOS MOPAR internal gears, shafts, etc., - $1000 for these parts alone.
I do have the complete original engine that I was able to free up if wanted.
Now -Runs, drives, steers, stops & shifts smoothly. Mechanically in good dependable shape now.
Complete brake system rebuilt which included, hard brake tubing, new master cylinder, new front wheel cylinders, rear stepped wheel cylinders sent to Karp's in Los Angeles for stainless steel sleeves, new parking brake band riveted lining, NOS brake shoe riveted linings & rubber hoses, seals, etc. Brakes work good.
New stock fuel pump & "Tanks" poly fuel tank installed along with new steel tubing & sending unit. Have the good original fuel tank, but has 30+ year old gasoline sludge in it if wanted.
Body: This car has an excellent body for being 83+ years old. Only rust hole is smaller than a dime and is located on the lower right side between the rear fender & door (mouse nest) & very easy area to address - can get to from inside the trunk as well. ****Original right rear fender has a piece torn off, but this car comes with a NOS RR Fender. Floors good & solid as well as the frame, doors, top, trunk lid. Small dents on the front fenders. Very nice grille shell with attaching pieces - hood & latches - cowl & vent all good as well. Excellent trunk floor - still retains most of the original black paint.
Interior: The original upholstery that's present is in poor condition. All gauges work as they should with the exception of the temperature gauge. Included is a NOS Temp Gauge Unit. This car has an original radio - unknown if it will work - pretty rare option. The interior surfaces have surface rust which will sand off. Windshield cranks out - needs lube for better operation. Door latches inside & out as well as side windows work good. Cowl vent works as it should. Glove box interior still presentable.
This car was rewired at some point in the past. Lights work, stop lights work, horns work sometimes. There is an old column mounted turn signal switch - unknown if it will work? Spare tire & original wheel behind passenger side seat.
More info: This car has not been altered from stock and includes 5 artillery wheels, 4 nice original to the car hubcaps. Has running board (side trim & front bumper bracket bolt covers) - these parts are usually always missing or badly damaged. New correct door & ignition lock cylinders replaced - so the car can be locked up. I do not have the key for the trunk handle to lock it.
This car comes with the following additional parts:
Complete Body Stainless Trim (all very nice shape), Ram for Radiator Shell, New Stainless Steel Hood Mounting Bracket Set, NOS RR Fender, NOS Temp Gauge Assembly, New Spark Plug Wire Set, New Carburetor Kit, Repro Fuel Filler Grommet, Repro Cowl Vent Gasket, Additional matching Repro Stainless exterior door mirror for right side, Repro glove box manual, & tune-up specs for 1936.
I have driven this car many times in town (tires are not in good shape for highway speeds), but is dependable the way it is and is easy to drive. You definitely get looks wherever you go! I left this car cosmetically alone for the old car look, but have addressed most of the mechanical issues known to make this a dependable driver the way it is.
