Description

1918 Dodge Brothers Model 30 California Touring Sedan

Ever seen a Dodge Brothers Model 30 with rare California top? Bet not! Be the only one at a vintage car show with this rare beauty! Original running gear and expertly restored to original condition! Rebuilt motor, fresh two-stage paint and exquisite interior upholstery! Own the only one available!

The Dodge Brothers Motor Company was founded in 1900 in Detroit and manufactured many suspension and motor parts for larger vehicle manufacturers, including Oldsmobile and Ford). 1914 marked the first dedicated model, the 30, that standardized many items that would later become relevant in more popular Fords, including a full steel body, 12V charging system, a whopping 35 horsepower and reverse H-pattern sliding gear manual transmission. As a result, Dodge Bros vehicles in the 1910s had a knack for reliability and durability!

We are very excited to offer this 1918 Dodge Brothers Model 30 California Touring Sedan! Finished in the popular shade of Black over Black naugahyde upholstery. The car is fitted with its original sequence-correct cast-iron 212ci Inline L-Head four cylinder with Detroit Lubricator carburetion and mated to a three-speed manual transmission. Features on this touring are expectedly spartan but do include California top (installed by a company in El Paso, Texas) with beveled glass and side curtains, rear-mount spare with brake light, Dodge Brothers Motometer, Dodge Brothers running board steps, dual side-view mirrors, wood steering wheel, electric horn and more! The car rides on attractive wooden artillery wheels wrapped in 33×4 Goodrich Silvertown Cord 4/6 ply blackwall tires!

We have records of the car dating to 1988, where a title copy shows a Mr. David W. Sarver owned the car in Wichita, Kansas. He owned this until Thanksgiving of 1997, where it traded hands at the 15th annual Theurer auction in Wellington for the price of $4,950. This Dodge Brothers Club member owner in Bonner Springs restored the car and we have many receipts, correspondence and documentation regarding what was done and when, including a mechanical rebuild by Robert Robb in Warsaw, MO and fresh interior by Ken Coates Custom Upholstery in Leavenworth. Upon completion, the car was taken to select shows and even invited to visit the Dodge production line in Fenton, MO (outside of St. Louis). These folks owned the car until the previous owner purchased it in 2006. Fifteen years later, the results are outstanding and since the car has seen only limited driving use and behind velvet rope display, the car will show arguably better-than-new from every angle. Even the undercarriage is highly detailed and finished in its correct colors! Details on this example are exquisite; everything from the Dodge Brothers headlight lenses, North East Electric Model GA starter, Detroit lubricator carburetor, Stewart Vacuum fuel feed, six blade cooling fan and McCord radiator are all present. This Model 30 runs down the road exceptionally well, with very exact clutch feel and more than adequate power. The engine is about as smooth as any 4 cylinder of the era and arguably more so than even the Model A over a decade later.

This unique Dodge Brothers is quite literally the only example for sale and one of only a handful believed to be in existence. For further proof, we would challenge you to try and even find a picture of another! We would invite serious Dodge Brothers collectors or enthusiasts of the rare and exclusive to call with any additional questions. Thanks for looking!
