1968 Dodge Charger RT - Frame up Restoration
Description
Background on the Seller:
Hello, my name is Paul and I am selling (1) 1968 Dodge Charger RT on the behalf of my good friend Jim Zellner. Jim, like many old school Mopar enthusiasts, doesn't have an Ebay account and I've been asking him to allow me to post one of his vehicles on Ebay for quite some time. He finally agreed and I'm happy to post this 1968 Charger on his behalf.
I've known Jim for quite a few years and he's played a huge role in the restoration of my own 1971 Dodge Challenger 440-6Pack. Jim has also built a powerful 520 Stroker motor for that same vehicle. I trust no one more with the car of my vehicles and am continuously impressed with Jim's knowledge and attention to detail with any project he undertakes. You can be confident in Jim's word, how the vehicles' represented, and that Jim wouldn't have originally purchased the vehicle if it wasn't a solid builder to begin with. Jim has decades of experience restoring Mopars, built numerous vehicles selling for over $100,000, has vehicles auctioned at Mecum and Barret Jackson, and has been featured/published in numerous Mopar Magazines. One of these articles is included in the pictures.
FOR SALE:
The 1968 Dodge Charger RT
Jim is selling this vehicle because one of his clients has elected to build another vehicle first and no longer wishes to store the vehicle. Fortunately for you bidders the hard part of this restoration has already been completed, with over $37,000 in receipts for body work. This vehicle is an original 440/727 column shift RT, not a clone, with a 489 8 3/4'' rear end. The Charger was painted a 2013 Chrysler color and has mirror like finish, just see some of the pictures below. The Charger is a roller at the moment having recently come out of body shop. The suspension is simply bolted in place and in need of being detailed and reinstalled. The vehicle comes with a new rear bumper, wiring harness, restored heater and most of the trim. As you can see in the pictures the sound deadener and the heater have already been installed. The dashboard frame has been restored but has yet to be put in the vehicle. The Charger comes with a large inventory of parts - leaving you little in parts you'll need to source. The vehicle is however missing a majority of the interior, glass, and front grille.
The original motor/trans are no longer with the vehicle but an entire drivetrain is being provided. This vehicles comes with a 1974 440 HP and the matching '74 727 automatic transmission that originally came out of a Hwy Patrol car, driveshaft included. The transmission has already been rebuilt (complete with shift kit and torque converter/flex plate) and the 440 motor has been freshened up as well with new rings, bearings, seals, valves, etc. If another drivetrain system is desired Jim may also be able to assist as he has A-833 speed manual transmissions available, numerous other motors/strokers. Charger comes with new oversized wheels and tires (P295/50/R15)
I'm also hosting over 100 pictures of the vehicle and included parts at a Dropbox location for serious buyers. You'll also find the numerous other publications on the vehicles Jim has recently restored. Please email me for a copy of the link to the pictures and articles.
My $0.02
There's a lot junk fetching good money Ebay recently. Some recent non-RT chargers have sold for the mid to upper teens needing complete restorations. I too bought a my 1971 Challenger needing complete restoration and spent a large amount of money getting the vehicle completed. Don't make the same mistake I did. This vehicle is well worth the asking price as the hard (and $$$) work has already been completed. Don't make the mistake of letting this sought after 1968 Charger RT slip through your fingers. This is a solid vehicle with attention to detail awaiting you to put the final touches and make it your own.
